She Cheated on Her Husband Just Once Before the Wedding: He Called Her Fat and Said She Wouldn’t Fit into Her Wedding Dress.
Emma cheated on her husband just once, before the wedding. He called her fat and said she wouldnt fit into her bridal gown.
Even before tying the knot, Emma betrayed her fiancé that single time. Hed insulted her weight, claiming shed never squeeze into her wedding dress. Hurt, she went out with friends to a nightclub in London, drank too much, and woke up in an unfamiliar flat beside a handsome bloke with blue eyes. The shame was unbearable! She never told Daniel, forgave his cruel words, and even started a diet. She quit alcoholwhich was easy once she discovered she was pregnant.
Their daughter arrived right on schedule, a beautiful blue-eyed girl, and Daniel was utterly smitten. For five years, Emma told herself everything was finethe girl had blue eyes because her grandfather did. And if her hair was curly, so what? Emma tried desperately to forget the bloke with tousled hair whose name she barely recalled. But deep in her mothers heart, she knew the girl wasnt Daniels. Maybe thats why she tolerated his late-night escapades, his endless “work trips,” his constant jabs about her cooking and figure. To their daughter, family mattered: she adored her dad, and what man doesnt stray?
“Just stick it outwhere else would you go?” her mum said. “Weve no spaceGrans bedridden, your brothers moved his fiancée in. Where would I put you? I warned you: never sign the house over to your mother-in-law. Now look at the mess youre in!”
So Emma endured. But it didnt matterDaniel left her anyway. Said hed met someone else, even cried, promising hed always be Amelias father but couldnt fight his feelings. His mother, who doted on the girl, dropped a bombshell after the divorce:
“Get a paternity testyou might be paying child support for nothing!”
Emma froze. She thought she was the only one with doubts. Turns out, she wasnt.
“Are you mad?” Daniel snapped. “Amelias mineanyone with eyes can see that.”
Maybe his mother had a point. Because a year after the divorce, when Emma landed in hospital with appendicitis and locked eyes with a familiar face over a surgical mask, her suspicions vanished.
“Pardon me, have we met before?” the surgeon asked.
Emma shook her head frantically, praying he wouldnt remember. But he didbecause the next day, during his rounds, he smirked, “Hope you wont bolt as fast as last time.”
Emma turned beetroot-red and planned to discharge herself ASAP. What she didnt expect was that, over those hospital days, Thomas would make her want to stay.
She never mentioned her daughters parentagejust that she had a little girl. No hints.
Thomas figured it out the first time he saw Amelia. Nervous, he bought her a doll and grilled Emma on how to act.
“Look,” he said, “my mum fell for another man when we were kids, but my sister never accepted him. In the end, she drove him away. I dont want thatI want to be your daughters second dad.”
His words shattered her. And when he saw Amelia, freezing for a split second before shooting Emma a baffled look, she knew: hed realised too.
“Whats the difference?” Emma thought. “Id have to tell him eventually.”
Bracing for yelling (thanks to her first marriage), she was stunned when Thomas just hugged her and whispered, “What a bloody brilliant miracle.”
At first, Amelia seemed fine with Thomas. But when Emma gently asked if he could move in, the girl wept: “I thought Dad was coming back! Let Thomas live somewhere else!”
Emma smoothed things over, but Thomas was gutted. “Shes my daughter! They need to know!”
“Daniel couldnt handle it. Neither could Amelia. To her, hes her dad. And to him, shes his only childhis new wife cant conceive. His mum told me.”
Resentment simmered. Meltdowns flared. Emma juggled peace in their patchwork family with strict rules: Daniel and Thomas never met, Amelia wasnt left alone with Thomas (theyd bicker), and even Mothers Day cards were pre-written to avoid slip-ups.
Then Emma got pregnant againand panicked. Would this baby look just like Amelia? Would Daniel figure it out? Would Amelia resent Thomas more? Worsewould he spill the truth while she was in labour?
They planned for her mum to mind Amelia during the birth. Last-minute, Mum was hospitalised with gallstones. Her stepdad refused, her brother worked full-time, and Daniel was abroad. Leaving Amelia with her ex-mother-in-law? No chance.
“I cant look after my own daughter?” Thomas fumed.
Labour was rougha C-section, then neonatal jaundice kept them in hospital. At home, tension brewed. Thomas insisted all was fine, but Amelia clammed up. “Hes told her,” Emma feared.
Chatting to neighbours, they urged honesty: “The truth always outsyoull pay for lying.” Spurred on, she called Daniel:
“I need to confess something.”
“Confess what?”
Long pause. Deep breath.
“About Amelia…”
“What about her?”
Emma hesitated, though shed rehearsed this.
“Shes your… mates kid. Ive known forever.”
“He told you?”
“Ive known since she was one. Got tested. Before basic training, docs said Id never have kids. Kept it quiet, hoped for a miracle… then doubted. Mum did too. So I checked.”
“But… why…?”
Emma couldnt fathom why hed bottled this up.
“What could I do?” he snapped. “Shes blameless! And dont you tell her! I played along because I couldnt lose her.”
Party time? Hardly.
At discharge, Emma watched Thomas and Amelia warilythey were acting odd, exchanging glances.
“Howd you manage without me?” she asked, shaky, once the baby slept and Amelia doodled.
“Brilliant! You coddle herwe sorted ourselves out.”
“You told her?”
“Course not! You banned it.”
“Then whys she so quiet?”
Thomas grinned. “Ask her.”
Emma peeked into Amelias room. Tongue poked out, the girl was scribbling fiercely in red. Three adults. Two kids.
“Whos this?”
“Cant you tell? You, Dad, Thomas, me, and baby Victor.”
“Lovely.”
“Yeah. Mum… can someone have two dads?”
*Hes told her.*
“Sometimes,” Emma said carefully.
“So can I call Thomas Dad too? Hes nice. We built a LEGO castle and saw fish. This funny granddad at the shop asked what my dad does. I didnt know if he meant Thomas, so I said hes a doctor. Its cool having a doctor dad. I asked him, but wanted to check with you.”
Emmas throat tightened. Shed trapped herself. Daniel forgave her. Thomas would too. But if Amelia ever learned the truth… She hugged her daughter.
“Of course you can call him Dad. Hed love that. Just… dont tell your other dad, okay?”
