Richard Was Convinced His Wife Would Cheat, So He Decided to Teach Her a Lesson – Only to Be Astonis…

Richard was absolutely convinced that his wife was bound to cheat on him. So, naturally, he decided to catch her outand ended up astonished.

Darling, arent you going to be late? Emma asked her husband, who was busy yapping away on his mobile. Your flights in two hours, you know.
Oh, didnt I mention? Richard said, feigning surprise as he looked at her. The business trips been postponed. Looks like I wont be leaving for a few more days.
I see, replied Emma, before dashing off to the kitchen to fetch her phone. She sent off a quick text to someone mysterious, then breezed back into the living room. This, of course, made Richard even more certain in his suspicions. She was always so relaxed about him going out with mates or jetting off for work. She didnt even mind when he rolled in after having one pint too many. His mates all agreeda woman like that must be too good to be true, or shes plotting something. Yet, even with his misgivings, poor Richard was riddled with guilt.

He was, after all, eight years older than Emma. What if shed found herself a younger chap? Someone with less of a bald spot and more enthusiasm for jogging?
Yet, Richard just about managed to keep these thoughts to himselfflying accusations without evidence, as his mother would say, is how you end up sleepin in the garden shed. He wanted certainty. In his infinite wisdom, he could think of no better course of action than installing cameras throughout the flat.

So off Richard went on his business trip, in a positively grumpy mood. Even Emma noticed he looked rather glum and considered offering him a paracetamol. Despite his suspicions, the fact she cared did give him a tiny flicker of hope that maybe, just maybe, things were fine.
Between meetings and questionable hotel breakfasts, Richard couldnt even bring himself to watch the recorded footage live. Most evenings, hed open the app, watch about five minutes, then snap the laptop closed, mentally running as far from temptation as possible.

Soon enough, the business trip was over. On the day Emma left for work, Richard sat down with his cup of tea, opened his laptop, and started viewing the recordings again, still reluctant to see the full, terrifying truth.

At first, it was all frightfully ordinary. Emma woke up, had her breakfast, did a bit of tidying. But come afternoon, Richard was astonished to spot his always-smartly-dressed wife lounging in his saggy football shorts and an oversized old t-shirt, playing a game on the computer. He could hear voices of other players chattering away through her headphones. As it turned out, Emma was a bit of an online gaming addict.

Well, thats not exactly ideal, Richard muttered to himself, but everyones got their quirks, I suppose.
Fast-forwarding through the rest, he saw the usual: a bit of cleaning, more computer, nothing exciting. Most importantly, not a soulapart from the goldfishset foot in the flat.

With a sigh, Richard snapped the laptop shut. Now he just felt rotten for having suspected her. Determined to make it up to her, he resolved to buy Emma the largest bouquet of roses South London had to offer and plan a romantic dinner. Still, he reckoned hed leave the cameras up, just in case. Little did he knowThat evening, Richard waited for Emma to come home, sweating nervously behind his mountain of roses. When she finally came through the door, arms lugging groceries, she skidded to a halt and stared at him wide-eyed.

What on earth?

I owe you an apology, Richard blurted out, thrusting the flowers at her in a desperate gesture. Ive been a right idiot, doubting you. You deserve better than a suspicious old fool for a husband.

Emma blinked, clutching the roses. Her eyes sparkled, somewhere between amusement and affection. She put down the shopping, stepped forward, and wrapped her arms around him.

Rich, next time you think Im up to something Just ask. She paused, then whispered mischievously, Unless you want to join my guild on Saturdays. We need a tank.

Relief flooded Richard so completely he barked out a laugh. Deal. But I warn you, Im terrible with computers.

Emma grinned, leading him to the kitchen. Thats alright. Ill teach you. As long as you promise, no more spying. And maybe, she said, planting a kiss on his cheek, try my lucky t-shirt sometime. Works wonders in boss fights.

They cooked dinner together that night, clumsy with forgiveness and laughter. Richards suspicions dissolved, replaced by a newfound curiosity for the secret parts of Emmas lifethe little joys and quirks hed missed while looking for shadows.

Some weeks later, on a Saturday evening, Richard found himself snug beside Emma, headset askew, shouting helplessly at a horde of digital goblins while his wife cackled beside him. Their love, it turned out, was far more excitingand far less predictablethan any mystery Richard could conjure.

And as the game chat exploded with victory cheers, Richard realized that, with trust and a hint of adventure, even an old fool could make the right call.
