An exceptionally attractive young woman boarded the plane with a confident stride, sporting oversized sunglasses and carrying a luxurious designer bag on her shoulder.
Many years ago, a remarkably attractive young woman boarded an aeroplane with confident strides. Her face was half-hidden behind oversized sunglasses, and a fashionable designer handbag hung from her shoulder. When she arrived at her seat, she noticed she would have to sit beside an elderly gentleman of very modest appearancehis shirt was clean but well-worn, and his shoes had clearly walked many miles throughout his life.
As soon as she sat, she immediately beckoned the flight attendant.
Could I be moved to another seat? she said in an icy, abrupt manner, I simply cannot travel next to someone like him Look at how hes dressed, those old shoes. I deserve better company.
The flight attendant, surprised by her comment, kept her composure.
Im terribly sorry, miss, but all seats in economy are currently occupied, she replied.
The young woman sighed dramatically and turned to the window, visibly annoyed.
The older gentleman simply lowered his eyes. Not a word escaped his lips.
The attendant, feeling uneasy about the situation, made her way to the cockpit to explain the incident to the captain. He listened carefully, then smiled calmly.
Leave it to me. Ill take care of it.
A few minutes later, the flight attendant returned with a gracious smile.
Miss, she said, the captain has granted a change of seat. Please accept our apologies that you had to travel beside such unpleasant company.
The young woman lifted her chin with satisfaction, picked up her bag, and rose swiftly, picturing herself in the comfort of first classwith more legroom and a drink in hand.
But then the attendant turned to the elderly gentleman, addressing him with genuine respect:
Sir, would you be so kind as to accompany me? The captain invites you to travel in First Class.
For an instant, absolute silence fell.
And then, as if everyone had been holding their breath, the entire cabin erupted in applause.
