Батько пообіцяв після свята відвести сина до матері, а бабуся сподівається на їхнє возз’єднання.
Батько сказав, що після Нового року відвезе сина до матері. Бабуся сподівалася, що зустріч щось змінить і мати повернеться до дитини.
Жінка з одного села розповіла історію. Її син одружився з дівчиною, і молодята стали жити разом у квартирі батьків. Згодом у них народився син. Усі раділи маленькому, чарівному хлопчику.
Коли малому виповнився рік, мати переїхала і залишила дитину під опіку батька та бабусі. Згодом батьки розлучилися, і син почав жити з бабусею. Його батько через роботу не мав багато часу для нього, постійно роз’їжджався, і вони спілкувалися лише телефоном.
Бабуся вранці йде на роботу, перед цим завжди готує онуку сніданок. Хлопчик сам ходить до школи, його навчили, як доглядати за собою, щоб завжди виглядати охайно та чисто.
Одного дня, коли хлопчик йшов до школи, на нього напали собаки, і він почав боятися ходити вулицею сам. Бабуся забрала його звідти і відвела до школи, дитина зі страху міцно тримала її за руку.
Малий часто питає про матір, думає, коли ж саме вона відведе його до школи, розмірковує про те, як би це було і про що б вони говорили. Бабуся обіцяє йому, що незабаром мама його відвідає, завжди при цьому в неї в очах з’являється сльоза. Дитина уважно слухає бабусю і сподівається, що та каже правду.
Перед Новим роком батько повернувся з подорожі, міцно обійняв сина, на що той відповів: «Тату, я хочу до мами, дуже за нею сумую. Інші діти постійно зі своїми мамами».

Пізніше вони разом відвідали магазин і купили подарунок для мами. На жаль, за якийсь час повернулися, хлопчик маленькими ручками витер сльози, питаючи, чому його мама так його не любить.
Мати навіть не впустила їх за двері, зачинивши їх перед носом. Єдиний спогад дитини про свою матір буде таким, що завжди буде його боліти. Можливо, у старості мати згадає про нього, коли залишиться зовсім сама.
