Великдень – це головне християнське свято, яке вшановує Воскресіння Ісуса Христа. Його дата змінюється щороку. У цей день православні вітаються словами “Христос Воскрес!” – “Воістину Воскрес!”.

Історія визначення дати Великодня
На Першому Вселенському соборі 325 року було вирішено, що всі церкви святкуватимуть Великдень в один день, який не збігається з єврейською Пасхою, що трапляється до весняного рівнодення.
Олександрійський патріарх щорічно розраховував дату свята і заздалегідь повідомляв її до Риму, аби святкування проходило в той же день. Та згодом ця традиція була забута, і Східна та Західна церкви почали визначати дату різними способами.
У 4-6 століттях в Олександрії (сучасна територія Єгипту) були розроблені спеціальні великодні таблиці, які дозволяли прогнозувати дату Пасхи на значний період часу. Завдяки цьому основне християнське свято стали відзначати в першу неділю після першого повного місяця, що йде за днем весняного рівнодення (21 березня) або збігається з ним.
Чому Великдень відзначають у різні дні католики і православні
У 16 столітті католицька церква прийняла григоріанський календар і, відповідно, нову пасхалію, тоді як православна церква продовжила використовувати юліанський календар та орієнтуватися на олександрійську пасхалію. Через це православні та католики, як правило, святкують Великдень у різні дні.
