Father Noticed a Bruise Under His Daughter’s Eye and Made a Call—His Son-in-Law’s Life Was Ruined.

Published

on

The father saw the bruise beneath his daughters eye and made a callhis son-in-laws life was about to unravel.

Emily stood in the doorway, greeting her parents with her usual cheerful smile. Only the dark, swollen shadow under her eye betrayed the truth she refused to discuss.

“Mum, its nothing, reallydont make a fuss,” she said quickly, catching her mothers sharp gaze.

Margaret sighed deeply. “Its your life, love. You have to live it”

Her father didnt even acknowledge his son-in-law. He walked slowly to the window, staring blankly outside as if deaf to his daughters murmured excuse about a cupboard and the dark.

“I just tripped last night. Honestly, Mum, everythings fineme and James are fine!”

Fine? Emily remembered perfectly what had happened. James, always simmering with rage, hadnt just shouted. When shed dared to say shed had enough, hed grabbed her by the collar of her dressing gown so hard it tore.

“What, you stupid cow, forgotten who keeps a roof over your head?” hed snarled, shaking her. “Forgotten who dragged you back from those pubs when you ran off to that Daniel? Forgotten who loved you, you ungrateful little?”

Then the punchhard, deliberate. Stars exploded behind her eyes before pain swallowed everything. And James kept yelling, foul words spilling from his lips.

“Yes, love. The cupboard the dark,” Margaret muttered, though she knew exactly what had happened.

And she felt guilty. Shed been the one who pushed Emily to marry James! Shed been the one to drive Daniel away, convinced he was a bad influence.

“That cupboard of yours, lovesounds like its got fists,” Margaret said dryly, casting a pointed look at her son-in-law.

Edward never turned from the window. He stepped onto the balcony to smoke. Unlike his wife, hed never liked James. The man was all flashinherited wealth, a flat in Kensington, connections. But inside? Rotten.

And now the rot had surfaceda bruise on his daughters face.

Edward could have grabbed James by the lapels and knocked him senseless. But that would only cause more drama. So he stepped outside.

He already knew how to handle this.

Hed spent a long time on the phone out here

Meanwhile, Emily bought her mother a coffee, and they talked about nothing. Half an hour later, her parents left.

James, whod braced for a scene, finally relaxed. He sat back on the sofa, cracked open a lager, and smirked. In his mind, their silence meant approval. Family stuck together. Bruises? Part of life. No one kicked up a fuss.

“See, Em? Told you itd blow over,” he drawled, smug. “Your parents are decent. Unlike you Last night, you started on me! So I had a drink, so what?”

He took a swig and reached for crisps.

His relief didnt last.

Not even half an hour later, someone knockedfirm, deliberate. The sound made James freeze mid-sip.

He peered through the peepholeand paled.

Daniel stood there. His rival. Emilys ex. The one whod almost married her. Tall, sharp-suited, with that infuriating confidence that made women swoon and men want to punch him.

“What dyou want?” James growled, opening the door just enough to glare.

“Step aside,” Daniel said calmlythen shouldered past like James was nothing.

Emily stood, eyes wide.

“Daniel”

“Pack what you need,” he said briskly. “Well go to mine, or your parents. But youre not staying with this washed-up waste of space.”

“Who the hell you calling washed-up?” James snapped, but he stayed glued to the corner like a scared child.

He had his reasons to fear Daniel.

“I called you, Jimmy boy,” Daniel smiled. “Didnt want to interfere. But when Emilys dadgood bloke, by the wayrang me, told me youd hit her? Well. Game over.”

“Whatwhatre you on about?” James choked.

“Oh, not me directly,” Daniel chuckled. “But that bar you lease? Belongs to a mate of mine. A very good mate. Youll get noticelease terminated. Already sent to your office.”

James gaped.

“Plus, back rent. Six months worth. Remember when they said the rate might go up if the bar turned profit? It did. Six months ago. You just never read the letters. Me and Mike kept quiet, let the debt pile up. With penalties its a lot. Want the number?”

Daniel leaned in.

“And youve got nothing to pay it with. Shouldve spent less time drinking with your mates.”

James slumped like a deflated balloon.

“Thisthis is a setup!” he wheezed.

“Think what you want,” Daniel shrugged. “Sue me. Oh waityour solicitor quit. Or did you sack him? Wholl fight for you now? Your bartender with the nose ring?”

James mouth opened uselessly.

“Em, lets go. Dont bother with your things. Ill buy you whatever you need. This junk?” He flicked a dismissive glance around. “Charity shop rejects.”

“Daniel, wait,” Emily said, dazed. “This is sudden. I dont”

“Sudden is taking a punch and making excuses for it. The rest is just overdue.”

He held out his hand. She took it.

“Youre all mad!” James screeched. “This is my house! My wife!”

“Wife?” Daniels laugh was ice. “Youre the husband who hits her, then hides behind a six-pack and the telly? Youre not a man. Youre a joke. Loud, pathetic nothing. Cant even swing at me properly.”

James spluttered.

“Take me to court if you want. But your bars done. You pissed away your dads goodwill. Wholl back you now?”

Emily followed Daniel without looking back. Only at the door did she pause.

“Sorry, James. Goodbye.”

“Piss off, then!” he spat.

And they left.

Two days later, James sat in an empty flat. The bar was closed. Papers littered the tableeviction notices, debt demands.

Daniel hadnt just been an ex. Hed been waiting. And when he struck, it was flawless.

Back at her parents, Emily walked into the sitting room.

“Hi,” she said softly.

“Whereve you been?” Edward asked, feigning gruffness. “James looking for you?”

“I was with Daniel.”

“So you left James?”

“Yes.”

Margaret clasped her hands. Edward just nodded.

“Good. And rememberif that idiot comes near you again, Ill rearrange his face myself.”

“Dad you called Daniel?”

“Course. Who else?” Edward winked. “Good lad. Unlike that one.”

“Thank God you left that waste of space!” Margaret burst out. “Im sorry, loveI nearly ruined your life.”

“Oh, Mum, dont,” Emily laughed weakly.

Outside, Daniel leaned against his black Range Rover, smiling. He knew. No one would ever lay a hand on Emily again.

Well except with love. But that was another story.
