Her Husband Wondered Why Alina Couldn’t Stand Their Neighbour, but When He Discovered the Reason, He Was Astonished…
Honestly, Im so tired of listening to her stories about her family! Shes our neighbour, cant you just lend her an ear? my husband asked me last night. But she just repeats herself every time. Now, Emily is usually really patient and calm, but that definitely doesnt apply when it comes to our neighbour Margaret. And the funny thing is, my husband cant figure out why I get so bothered by it.
There was a time, ages ago, when we were all good friends with Margarets family. Shes about fifteen years older than me. After her parents passed away, Margaret and her two sisters started sharing the house. Youd think that everything would turn out all rightthey even decided to sell the place and split the money between the three of them. But, of course, things got complicated.
I never heard all the juicy details, but my gran mentioned that Margaret had asked to stay on in the house for a while because she was going through a rough patch, and promised to pay back her sisters as soon as her situation improved. The sisters, being good-hearted, agreed and officially gave up their inheritance. After that, who knows what really happened? But if you ask me, I suspect Margaret still hasnt paid them back.
She pops round to see me quite a lot, always having a moan about her family: They dont care about me. Nobody calls or checks in. All they ever think about is money. Well, you did promise to sort them out! But according to her, shes the only good one, and everyone else is just selfish and horrid. Honestly, sometimes I think I should ring them, she rambles on, theres not enough money coming in to keep the house together, they ought to help as well, shouldnt they? Its not just my house, after all.
I just stared at her, But didnt they sign it over to you? Doesnt matter if they did! she said. Its their home toothey grew up here, it was their dads house. Dont they care at all? Maybe they feel a bit hurt because you promised to pay them, but you havent managed it yet? I suggested.
Oh, please, the whole thing was their idea! No one forced them. And I said Id pay the moment I could, but I dont have the money yet. Its not fair, is it, selling the house just to pay them off! Where would I live then? Honestly, no one thinks about mejust the cash.
At that point, I glanced over at my husband and saw the look on his face. Hed finally got the messagenow he gets why Im not exactly thrilled whenever Margaret turns up for her endless complaining sessions.
