I asked my husband to look after her, but his harsh reply shook me so much that I packed my bags and left.
My problem is that I married for the second time. I had a daughter with my first husband, but he took no part in raising her and never paid any child support.
I never held a grudge because I knew he wasnt a real manI just focused on relying on myself. I had a good salary, a decent position, so it wasnt as though I struggled financially. After a while, I remarried, but my mother-in-law never warmed to me or my daughter, and my husband himself was quite stand-offish with my child. He was in no hurry to have children of his own, always saying it was too soon, that he wasnt ready for such responsibility yet.
I didnt press the issue much, to be honest, because I was absorbed in a major project at work and kept myself busy. One day, I was due to meet with some important clients, and I wasnt sure who could watch my daughter. I thought Id ask my husband if he could look after her.
That morning, I woke up extra early to rehearse my opening speech, thinking I could take my daughter to nursery, then pick her up after work. But she woke up with a high temperature. I was desperate, so I asked my husband if he could please keep an eye on her, since I simply had to be at this meeting. He just said that my daughter was my responsibility and that I should figure out how to look after her on my own.
Lost for options, I rang my mother-in-law to check if she was at home. I went over with my daughter and explained the situation, but she refused outright, saying she wouldnt look after someone elses child. I couldnt help but cry, thanked her anyway, and said Id just have to take my daughter into work with me. That must have softened her a bit, because she eventually agreed to watch her for a while.
The meeting at work went well, and after I finished, I went back for my daughter. My mother-in-law started complaining about her, saying she was a handful and never listened. I promised I wouldnt trouble her with this again.
When I returned home, I packed up our things, took my daughter firmly by the hand, and left for my mums house. I have no intention of staying with a man who cant accept my daughter.
