I Can’t Believe It! My Best Friend Turns Out to Be the Father of My Son Alex! Four Years of Raising Him, Never Suspecting He Wasn’t Mine
“I cant believe it! My best friend is actually Alexs father! For over four years, Ive raised this boy, never suspecting he wasnt mine.”
Emily and Victor had been in love since their school days. After graduation, Victor left for an aviation university in another city, while Emily stayed behind. They called each other daily, keeping their bond strong.
When Victor began his flight training, Emily grew jealous of the glamorous flight attendants he worked with. During a visit to reconcile, they spent a passionate night together, confessing their love. But the next morning, Emily saw a message from one of the stewardesses, asking about his next flight and saying how much calmer she felt flying with him.
Jealousy took over. Emily stormed out in tears, leaving Victor bewildered.
Soon after, Victor was offered a lucrative job abroadgreat prospects, excellent pay. He hesitated to tell Emily hed be leaving for a year. But before he could, she announced she was pregnant.
Victor proposed. Their wedding was lavish, attended by half the town. He turned down the overseas opportunityEmily refused to go.
After the wedding, Victor moved them to London. When their son was born, they took out a hefty mortgage on a spacious flat with his mothers help. Victor worked tirelessly to support them.
“If Id gone abroad for that year, I wouldnt be stuck in this grind! My career wouldve soared!” he grumbled.
“Oh, sure, Vic! While Im here with the baby, youd be off gallivanting with new women?” Emily snapped.
“Youre unbearable with your jealousy! If Im with you, Im with youno one else!”
Their fights worsened. After every flight, Emily would interrogate him, checking his phone for evidence. Three years in, Victor quit flying to become an instructor at the aviation school, driving a taxi on weekends to make ends meet.
He gave up his dream for her sake, striving to be the perfect husband and father.
One day, Victor missed a mortgage payment. To sort it out, he needed the contract. Emily wasnt home, so he rummaged through their documentsand found more than he bargained for. Beneath the paperwork lay a paternity test.
“What is this?” he muttered, scanning the results.
Child: Alex Victor Thompson. Probable father: Andrew Michael Bond. Probability of paternity: 99%.
“I cant believe it! My best friend is Alexs father? All these years”
Dazed, Victor didnt know how to confront Emily.
“Hi, love!” She kissed him, but he barely reacted.
“Alex, dinner first, then the park,” he said stiffly.
“Vic, whats wrong?” Emily laughed nervously.
“Dinner. Then Alex and I are going out.”
Confused, she pressed him. “Did something happen at work? Another trip?”
“Not in the mood.” He walked away.
Emily followed, demanding answers. “You cant ignore me like this! Im your wife! Explain yourself!”
“Youve lied to me for years! I gave up everything for youmy dreams, my freedom! And all this time, Alex isnt even mine?”
Emily paled. “How did you?”
Two months passed. Victor couldnt bear to speak to her. How could Andrew, his closest friend, keep this from him?
Andrew had always fancied Emilyopenly. Months before the wedding, hed married someone else, resigning himself to unrequited feelings. Yet at every gathering, he danced with Emily, not his wife.
Victors mother once remarked, “Emily, you and Andrew wouldve made a lovely pair.”
Emily laughed it off. “Dont be silly! Im married to your son! We have a child, and we love each other!”
“Then why do you always turn to Andrew, not your husband?”
“Victors always working. Andrew helps when I need it.”
But Victors mother suspected more. Shed noticed Alex had Andrews birthmark. Quietly, she arranged the paternity test, using Andrews glass and Alexs DNA.
One evening, she confronted Emily in tears. “How could you betray my son? Does Andrew even know he has a child?”
Emily begged her to stay silent. “It was one stupid night after a fight with Victor! I thought Alex was his! Please, dont ruin our lives!”
Victors mother left heartbroken. Emily hid the test results, praying hed never find them.
Returning from work one day, Emily resolved to confess. But Victor was gonehis things packed. A remote-controlled car lay on Alexs bed.
“Mum, wheres Dad?” Alex asked.
“Hes away for work,” she whispered, weeping on the balcony.
Desperate, she called Victor. “Please, lets talk!”
“Theres nothing left to say. Ill always love Alex, but I cant live with you. You destroyed my trust.”
Alex missed his father, so Victor took him on weekends. Emily begged for forgiveness.
“Remember that fight over the stewardess? I went clubbing with friendsAndrew was there. I dont even remember ending up at his place. I was too ashamed to tell you. I thought Alex was yours. Andrew swore it was a one-time mistake. I tried to forget it all!”
“Forgiveness? Never,” Victor said coldly.
He returned to flying, filed for divorce, and sent gifts from his travels. Andrew, unaware he had a son, moved abroad with his wife.
One reckless night had shattered everythingtrust, love, friendship. Victor lost his best friend and his marriage.
Emily lived comfortably in their flat, with a good income and Victors support. Alex attended the best school, and she indulged in luxury. But love? That was gone.
She tried relentlessly to win Victor back, but he refused. He struggled to trust again, though in time, he achieved the career heights hed always dreamed of.
Life is unpredictable. Was Emily right to hide the truth? What would you have done in Victors place? Sometimes, the weight of a secret can crush even the strongest loveand the price of deceit lasts a lifetime.
