I’m Going to Take Custody of My Grandchildren! Just Wait and See!

Published

on

It just so happens that my sister and I share a mother-in-law.

Everyone was fond of my husbandhe certainly knew how to charm people. He courted me, but at the same time he had his eye on my sister as well. When George discovered that my grandmother had left me her flat in London and not Emily, he promptly asked for my hand in marriage.

At that time, my sister was already expecting a baby; shed hoped to marry him herself and thought that a child would seal the deal. She ended up telling her ex-boyfriend that the baby was his, just to make sure she had someone by her side.

My husband and I lived in a small house in Kent with his parents. When their neighbours decided to sell their plot, my husband persuaded me to sell my London flat so we could buy the land. I agreed, though it meant we had to take out a loan to start building.

My mother-in-law was always on my back. She found fault with everything I did, spoiled her own daughter, and was constantly barking orders at me. When our house was finally built, she actually knocked down our fence and let her dogs roam into our garden, knowing full well how frightened I am of them. It was her way of making it clear who was in charge. No matter how often I pleaded with my husband to speak to her, he just insisted I was making mountains out of molehills.

I couldnt take it anymore. I went to court to claim my share of the house so that I could buy a flat of my own. But I discovered that the only name on the deed was my mother-in-laws. Somehow, theyd managed to cut me out completely, and I ended up homeless.

Thats when George found out that my sister had inherited a flat from my father, so he made his move. Wanting to break up her marriage, he told her husband the truththat he was the biological father of Emilys daughter. I divorced him, and he did to Emily exactly what hed done to me.

I hadnt spoken to my sister in ages, so it was mere chance that I heard they were together. Once Emily realised shed been tricked as well, she suggested we join forces.

We questioned our neighbours and learned that my mother-in-law and her son had already bought five plots of land, each time using a different unsuspecting womans money. George would bring his wife to live with his mother, divorce her later, and shed be left with nothing.

We contacted the other victims and wrote up a class-action suit. Unfortunately, there was no one left to take to courtmy ex-husband had moved abroad. My mother-in-law stayed behind, and now shes demanding custody of our children, claiming theyre her only grandchildren.

She even tried to take away our parental rights, arguing that since we dont own homes, were unfit mothers. Yet wed only lost our homes through her schemes. After a lengthy hearing, the court ordered that we arrange for the children to see their grandmother, and not block their relationship with her.

What truly stings is that my mother-in-law is turning our daughters against us; in her version, shes the good one and were the villains. She shamelessly undermines our happiness, stirs up trouble, and teaches the girls to lie about things like smoking or drinking. Now the girls threaten us: if we dont buy them a tablet, theyll call social services.

Ill have my grandchildren, just you wait! my mother-in-law shouts at us.

So what are we to do? How do we stand up to her? She has caused so much harm and still cant let things rest.

Through all of this, Ive learned that family is not defined by blood or marriage alone, but by respect, honesty, and kindness. When someone tries to build their happiness by sowing misery for others, they may win for a timebut in the end, trust and love are worth far more than any house or inheritance.
