Mum Keeps a Close Eye on Our Finances and Carefully Checks Our Spending, Making Saving Even More Challenging

Published

on

For the past two years, my husband and I have been living in a rented flat, and the situation is far from ideal. We dream of moving into a home of our own, but we simply dont have the means to make that happen at the moment. The flat we rent belongs to a friend of my mothers, and living here proves to be rather difficult. If something is out of place or if we do anything she disagrees with, tension erupts suddenly and unexpectedly. Our neighbours are hardly welcoming, often reminding us that were only temporary residents and will have to move on soon.

Our parents keep urging us to save up for our own house. However, its tough to put money away when were paying rent and covering other expenses. Mum is always keeping a close eye on our finances, scrutinising every penny spent, which makes saving even more challenging. We’ve even cut back on buying new clothes and only wear what we already own, desperate to save as much as we can.

Both my mum and my husbands mum own flats themselves and expect us to save up for a home of our own. But neither is willing to help us financially or offer any support. They seem to think that by not letting us stay in their flats, theyre teaching us independence; but we feel weve already gone through enough hardships and could really use their help now. It’s disheartening to see that our brothers and sisters were given flats, while we are left to scrape together money for ourselves. We dont think we deserve to be treated this way and wish they could understand what were going through and give us a bit of support.
