My Brother Asked for the Money I Had Saved for Years, and When I Refused, Our Mother Responded in the Most Appalling Way Possible

I live with my mum and hold two jobs. I pay for my own groceries and utilities, as all of my mums pension goes to supporting my older brother. I work tirelessly to save up for my own flat, and balancing all the bills while putting aside enough for the home I dream of isnt easy. Despite the challenges, I stay committed to my goal with hard work and discipline.

Recently, my brother asked me to lend him money for a deposit on a property abroad. Deep down, I knew hed never repay me, so I refused calmly and explained that I needed that money to buy my own place. He didnt take the refusal well and went straight to our mum to complain.

Financially, my brother is far from stable. He works as a cab driver and does odd jobs fixing things at peoples homes, so his income is unpredictable at best. On top of that, he and his wife have a habit of spending on needless things, like ordering fancy takeaways and splurging on luxury goods. Their lifestyle means they barely scrape by, even though they have three kids and no stable place of their own.

Unlike them, I focus on saving and managing my spending wisely. Im content with my old mobile, while my brothers wife is always seeking the newest model on credit. When I refused to lend my brother money for his deposit, he took offence and told our mum.

Mum tried to persuade me to help him out, even though he hasnt paid back what he owes. She made me a generous offer: if I gave him the money, shed sign over her flat to me. Still, I turned it down, not wanting to wait for my mums inheritance.

Although mum accepted my decision, things got tricky when my brother and his family decided to move in with her to save money. They didnt consider my situation and left me with nowhere to go. Mum thought Id be alright since I have savings, and my brother cut off all contact with me.

Even with all the difficulties and strains in my family, I feel no guilt for my decision. I believe I acted according to my principles, putting my future and dreams first while carefully managing the money Ive worked so hard to earn.
