My Ex-Husband’s Son from His Second Marriage Got Seriously Ill and My Ex Came Asking Me for Money—I Refused!

on

Im 37 years old and have been divorced for ten years now. My ex-husband cheated on me, and I couldnt forgive him for that, so I ended the marriage. Hes now living with the woman he left me for.

She got pregnant, had his child, and he married her not long after. Once that happened, I preferred not to keep in touch or find out what was going on in his life. Our worlds have stayed separate ever since.

Financially, Im comfortable Ive got a very good salary. Just last week, out of the blue, my ex showed up at my door. We hadnt seen each other in years, so I was genuinely taken aback. I wanted to ask why hed come, but he launched straight in. His son from his second marriage has just been diagnosed with cancer, and the treatment is expensive. He and his wife cant afford it and have turned to me for help.

He had heard Id come into a decent sum, since I recently sold the house I inherited from my grandmother. He clearly saw an opportunity and decided to ask me for the money right now, when it suited him best.

Honestly, I havent even decided what to do with it yet. Id like to buy a proper car, though Ill need some lessons before Im confident driving, and Im stretched for time. And its a respectable amount Im certainly not keen to part with it. I doubt hed offer me financial help if I were ill.

Do you have any idea just how desperate we are? he pleads, but I remember how little he has ever cared for my feelings. His wife never considered them, either. Back then, he barely hesitated before tossing me aside for her. During the divorce, we split everything down the middle he claimed he needed resources for his new family. He even tried getting money from me for the flat, but Id bought it before we got married, which saved me in the end. He was furious, utterly miserable about it. And now he shows up, demanding money, talking as though his feelings matter.

He said he could provide all the necessary paperwork if I didnt believe him. I told him I didnt want to see any of it. Im not even open to considering this. Even if he swears theyd pay every penny back, I doubt Id ever get anything returned. His child will need rehabilitation, too, and thats another costly process. Truthfully, I dont think Id see a single pound back.

I asked him, Why dont you try getting a loan from your bank?

I said all of this to his face. He yelled, threatened to get down on his knees. But I dont want that Im not interested in humiliating him. I just want nothing to do with him. He traded me away for someone else; he betrayed me. So now he can deal with the consequences himself. He said hed come back later, once Id cooled off and thought about it. Theres nothing more to think about.

People might say Im heartless, but I want to be in control of my own money. Im not about to share it with anyone else. After our conversation, I felt uneasy, but I will not help them its a lesson, a consequence for their choices.

I Don’t Understand Why I Became His Wife We Recently Got Married—I’d Thought My Husband Was Madly in Love With Me, but Something Strange Happened That Made Me Question Everything. It Wasn’t Infidelity, but Something Much More Serious and Bizarre. I Think It Happened Because I Cared Too Much—I Worshipped Him, Loved Him Unconditionally, and Forgave Everything. He Got Used to That, Grew More Confident, and His Ego Ballooned. He Probably Started to Think Any Woman Would Crawl Before Him at the Snap of His Fingers, Even Though He’s Not Highly Regarded by Others… Anyone Else Wouldn’t Have Tolerated His Mistakes or Trusted Him Blindly. Just Before the Wedding, He Wanted to Be Alone, Take a Holiday, and “Prepare” for Married Life. There Was Nothing I Could Do, So I Accepted and Let Him Go. He Later Told Me He’d Gone Alone to the Mountains to Escape Civilization—No Internet, No Phone—Just to Admire Nature. Meanwhile, I Stayed Home, Missing Him So Much My Heart Ached. I Counted Every Moment Until He Came Back. A Week Later He Returned—The Happiest Day of My Life. I Welcomed Him With All the Warmth and Love I Had, Cooking His Favourite Dishes. Then, the Very Next Day, Something Odd Began. He Kept Dashing Out to the Hallway or Another Room. Soon, He’d Leave the House Several Times a Day for All Sorts of Reasons. One Day, While Heading to the Shops, I Found a Letter in the Mailbox. It Looked Ordinary. Addressed to Me, from Him, Sent While He Was Away. But Its Words Shook Me Deeply. He’d Written: “Hello. I don’t want to mislead you any longer. You’re not the right person for me. I don’t want to spend my life with you. There won’t be a wedding. I’m sorry—don’t look for me and don’t call me. I’m not coming back to you.” So Brief, So Blunt, So Cruel… Only Now Did I Realize He’d Been Rushing to Check the Mailbox All This Time. Silently, I destroyed the letter, saying nothing to him and letting him believe nothing had happened. But how can I stay with someone who doesn’t want to be with me? Why did he marry me and pretend everything was fine?

Im baffled as to why I became his wife. We only just got married. I genuinely believed that my husband...
