My Husband Filed for Divorce—And It’s All Because of the Money He Earned Working Abroad!

I was 19 when a bloke named James, whom I’d been seeing for about a year, popped the question. I realised it was a bit soonI hadnt had the chance to properly enjoy my nights out with mates or just let my hair down. But James struck me as steady and trustworthy. Worried that I might never find someone better, I agreed to marry him.

We ended up living with his parents. My own family have a lovely detached house just outside London, and we were given the whole top floor to ourselves. I should point out that James’s parents werent hard up by any means, and when we got married, James was making good money too. It meant I was able to concentrate on my studies at university without worrying about bills.

Two years after we tied the knot, we had our first childa little girl. James was over the moon, but things took an unexpected turn soon after. He found himself out of a job. His folks offered him a position within their business, but James has always been fiercely independent, insisting on sorting something for himself. Not long after, a mate suggested he work abroad to earn some decent money. James agreed.

We promised each other it would just be for a year, enough time to save up a bit and hopefully buy ourselves something. But once James got a taste for earning a lot, a year away turned into two. He said he’d come back for visits, which he did, but each time he returned, it was only for a short stay before leaving again, always with the hope of buying us our own place in the city so we wouldn’t rely on his parents. I could see what he was trying to do, but I couldnt help feeling left behind. For five years it went onmy husband away more than he was home, and I grew desperate for some attention and company.

Then, one day, a man, a bit older than me, messaged me on social media. He showered me with compliments, telling me how gorgeous and wonderful I wasthe sort of thing I hadnt heard from James in ages. We chatted online for weeks before finally meeting. Things went further than I ever expected. I was unfaithful to my husband. It felt thrilling, if Im honest, and we met up a couple more times after that.

As luck would have it, two months later James returned for good, saying he was finally home to stay and even bought us a flat. Guilt consumed me. I couldnt live with myself and confessed everythingthe affair, and that it happened more than once. The fallout was just as youd imagine.

James threw me out. I briefly considered turning to the other man, but he made it clear he was never seriousfull of excuses, saying he couldnt be with me. To him, Id been a bit of fun, nothing more. Divorce papers came next. Now my daughter and I are living at my mums, and James is threatening to get custody. I cant forgive myself. I cant believe I didnt wait for James, or how I let it go this far.
