My Son Isn’t Home? – My Father-in-Law Awkwardly Stood on the Doorstep – Honestly, It’s Probably for the Best He’s Not Here
My mother-in-law and I could never see eye to eye.
At first, we tried living together, but we barely lasted a month under the same roof.
Things with my father-in-law were perfectly cordial; we found common ground easily. But his wife was another story entirely. She disliked me from the moment we met.
You’ve taken the wrong saucepan! shed shout at me, Youre boiling the potatoes all wrong!
Accusations like that hurled at me day in and day out.
Eventually, we moved into a rented flat of our own, and soon after, I found out I was expecting. My father-in-law had words with my mother-in-law, warning her to keep the peace for the sake of her future granddaughter.
Shes a terrifying woman, he grumbled. She had quite the temper when she was younger, but now in her old age, shes completely lost the plot. I only married her because she waited for me to return from national service, then I just got used to her.
During my pregnancy, she surprisingly held her tongue. But as soon as my daughter was bornfive weeks early, though thankfully healthythe troubles with her reignited.
Thats not your child, my mother-in-law declared to my husband.
Are you blind? Cant you work it out yourself? She was born early for a reason. Its someone elses child.
Thankfully, my husband took my side and defended me from her accusations. The last time, he even sent his mother packing. She refused to reconcile and never met her granddaughter. My father-in-law, meanwhile, still visited us, bringing giftseven though it earned him a scolding at home.
I havent a clue what television shows the old man had been watching, but when our little girl turned three, he took her for a walkand secretly went off to get a DNA test done. He wanted to teach his wife a lesson.
Is my son about? my father-in-law asked, standing stunned on the doorstep. Actually, its probably for the best he isnt. Ive just picked up the DNA results. Turns out, my wife was right. Who have you had this child with? That girl isnt ours!
I was speechless. I had no idea any test had been donebut I knew for certain the child was my husbands.
Naturally, my husband and I took our own tests, and the results proved he was the father beyond any doubt. The real bombshell? The tests showed my father-in-law wasnt, in fact, the girls grandfather.
So thats how she waited faithfully for me when I was away doing national service! he fumed.
They divorced in their twilight years, despite his wife begging for forgiveness.
Sometimes, before you go accusing others, youd do well to take a good look at yourself first.
What would you make of all this?
