My Son Isn’t Home? – My Father-in-Law Stood Awkwardly on the Threshold – Honestly, It’s Probably for the Best He’s Not Here
I could never quite get along with my mother-in-law.
At first, we tried living together, but we only managed a month.
My relationship with my father-in-law was decentwe got on well enough and always seemed to find common ground. But with his wife, it was a whole other story. She didnt like me from the moment she first set eyes on me.
Youve picked the wrong saucepan, shed shout at me. Youve ruined the potatoes again…”
Comments like these were a constant barrage.
Eventually, we moved into a rented flat, and thats when I found out I was pregnant. My father-in-law called his wife to order, telling her not to stress me out, for the sake of her future granddaughter.
Shes a difficult woman, hed say, shaking his head, always had a fiery temper when she was young, and now she’s gotten even worse with age. I only married her because she waited for me to come back from the service, and then I just got used to her.
To be fair, while I was pregnant, my mother-in-law became much more subdued. But the moment my daughter was born, the problems returned in full force. Our little girl arrived five weeks early, but thankfully, she was healthy as could be.
Thats not your child, my mother-in-law hissed at my husband.
Are you blind? Cant you see why the baby was born early? Shes not yours!
Thank goodness my husband backed me up and defended me whenever she started. The last time, he even threw her out of the house.
She never saw her granddaughter and refused to make amends. My father-in-law still visited often, bringing gifts for us, although he would catch all sorts of grief at home for it.
He must have been watching too many daytime shows, because when the baby turned three, he took her out for a walkand decided to get a DNA test done. He thought hed teach his wife a lesson.
My sons not home? My father-in-law stood awkwardly in the doorway. Well, its probably for the best. Ive picked up the DNA results. Turns out, my wife was right all along. Who did you have this child with? This little girls not ours!
I was dumbstruck. I knew nothing about any test, and I was absolutely sure the child was my husbands.
So, my husband and I took our own tests to set things straightand yes, paternity was confirmed. It turned out my father-in-law was the one who wasnt related to his granddaughter after all.
So thats how she waited for me to come home from the army! he fumed.
In the end, they divorced after all those years, despite her begging him to forgive her.
It just goes to showyou should take a look in the mirror before pointing fingers at someone else.
What do you reckon about all this?
