Susan enjoyed a wealthier life compared to her friend, so she often shared her fortune by giving her money from her comfortable earnings—little did she realise she was unknowingly building a dowry for her friend’s future husband!

From the outside, I must have looked like a happy woman: a mother of three, fluent in several languages, with a secure job as an analyst at a prominent bank, earning a respectable salary. I kept myself well-presented, and people often complimented my taste. My husband, James, on the other hand, had been at home for five years and showed little intention of seeking employment. After the children were born, I returned to work, and my income allowed us to hire a wonderful nanny to help with the little ones.

We lived in a flat in London that James had inherited from his grandparents, though I also took out a mortgage on a one-bedroom flat, which I then let out to help manage our debts more easily.

By nature, Ive always been compassionate, so I genuinely tried to understand Jamess situation, patiently hoping hed find his path and a new job. Over the years, I became close with a couple, Charlotte and Richard. We quickly bonded, and our families spent many holidays together, relishing each other’s company and enjoying simple English traditions afternoons in the park, weekends in the countryside.

Tragedy arrived unexpectedly when Richard fell seriously ill. During those painful months, I supported them both, offering not just emotional comfort but also financial help when they struggled under the weight of hospital bills and daily expenses. When Richard passed away, I continued to help Charlotte as she tried to cope with her loss, giving what I could.

Then, without warning, James told me hed met another woman and was leaving. I was absolutely stunned. I couldnt make sense of how quickly hed changed, or why hed chosen this new person above our family. Heartbroken, I sought comfort with my best friend Charlotte. But nothing could have prepared me for what I found there James was with her, and suddenly everything made sense. The betrayal was sharper than I could have ever imagined.

Drained and shell-shocked, I returned home, only to be met with a phone call from my mother-in-law. She accused me, blaming me for Jamess departure and for his years of unemployment, saying I had neglected my family for the sake of my career. Her words cut deeply, making me question every decision and sacrifice I had made. The accusations hung over me like a dense cloud, leaving me to wonder if Id really failed my family after all.
