The Second Marriage Proposal: Why It’s Just as Important to Give Gifts to Men

Published

on

The couple has now been married for eight years. He does everything for heralways looking after her, protecting her, spoiling her just a little. Everyone tells her how lucky she is to have such a wonderful husband. There was even a time when she lost her wedding ring in the sea, and that very same week, her husband gifted her a new one.

So that everyone knows youre taken and youre mine, he said warmly, handing her the gift.

She enjoyed his affection and certainly appreciated his thoughtful, expensive gifts. She was always content simply staying in his reliable shadow and, somehow, never quite noticed that she was giving him a bit less in return. On his birthdays, she made a point of a romantic dinner, but he always surprised her with something extravagant, beyond the usual bouquet of roses. Generally, she didnt often treat him to home-cooked meals, thinking that after work, both of them were too weary for much in the kitchena sandwich or a takeaway order would do just fine.

Her husband never complained about any of this, but her mother certainly did.

Youre onto your second ring now, but your husbands still without his own. Have you never thought to buy him one, all these years? All the women stare at himthey wouldnt know hes married.

Those words stung. She much preferred other women kept their eyes away from her husband; she knew he was handsome enough that plenty would be interested. It had never occurred to her that it might be because he didnt wear a ring.

At the time of their wedding, they could only afford one ringfor her. Hed borrowed one for himself from a mate, just for the ceremony, and returned it straight after. Even when he could have treated himself to his own ring later, he put it off, thinking it a bit of a luxury.

She didnt look for special reasons or wait for anniversariesshe simply decided to buy him a ring. A plain gold one, nothing flashy. That evening, as her husband returned home from work, he found a velvet box waiting for him on the bedside table.

Whats this? he asked, puzzled. Have you bought yourself something?

Its for you, she replied, barely able to keep her excitement hidden.

He hadnt expected anything at all, but when he opened the box, he was genuinely moved.

You got this for me? He slid the ring onto his finger and pulled his wife in for a hug. Thank you! Id meant to ask if we might pick one together, but receiving this from youits just really special! Is this your way of proposing a second time?

They laughed and held each other, before heading into the kitchen together to make dinnerfull of joy, looking forward to the weekend ahead.
