The Son Suddenly Announced He’s Getting Married to a New Girl He Met Only Three Days Ago.
So, tonight at dinner, my son announced, Ive decided I want to get married. My dad couldnt help but chuckle, and my mum stopped chewing for a second, just staring at him.
What are you talking about? she asked, genuinely confused. Married to who?
Shes new, he sighed, propping his head up with his hand. Shes so pretty, so clever, so charming.
This girl had completely put him off his food, and it seemed he couldnt concentrate on anything lately.
Does the girl know about all this? Dad teased, trying not to grin.
Yeah I told her today and she said she doesnt mind, but shed like me to have a flat, he replied.
You have one? Mum asked, surprised.
Well, sort of. I mean, we live in a flat, dont we? Dads got a car, and I promised her Id borrow it for the wedding
Dad just shook his head, as if to say he hadnt signed up for this and didnt plan on handing over his car any time soon.
What about her? Is she a good bride? Mum was starting to really get into it.
Oh yes, he said, excited. Shes lovely and speaks very nicely.
Mum tried not to laugh, gesturing to his plate. After all, youre not eating a thing.
Leave him be, hes lost in his daydreams about this wedding, Dad joked. But I forbid you from getting married until you show me your grades in maths and English.
My son looked horrified at Dad. Hed spent all day thinking about the girl, hadnt done his homework, and his spelling test today had gone terriblyall because the new girl in class was making it impossible to focus. Shes honestly the prettiest girl hes ever seen. And hes not the only one, so hes put all his energy into winning her heart rather than his schoolwork.
Come on, Dad!
Now youve finished eating for the day, off you go and do your homework. No wedding, no flat, no car, until your grades are above a D.
He felt a bit insulted, but got up from the table and went to his room without protest.
Ah, year sixes, Mum sighed.
Tell me about it Dad agreed.
