Veronica’s Parents Gifted the Newlyweds a Flat as a Wedding Present, While Mark’s Mum Gave Them Only a Set of Dishes – And That’s How Their Story Began

Eleanor only began to treat her stepmother poorly after she became a married woman. The root of her bitterness was that her mother-in-law hadnt contributed any money towards the wedding. Her only comfort was that they wouldnt be sharing a home, since Janes parents had generously gifted the young couple a spacious three-bedroom flat in Manchester. In contrast, Marks mother had given them nothing more than a simple, everyday crockery set. Worse yet, she didnt even come to the painting ceremony, pleading illness. Secretly, Jane was relieved by her absence.

Their married life carried on peacefully until Dorothy, Marks mother, fell ill and couldnt manage living alone in her cottage in the countryside. Although Jane was far from keen about having her mother-in-law live with them, there wasnt any other option. Dorothy tried to pitch in with housework, yet that only grated on Janes nerves more. She found fault with everything her mother-in-law tried to do. Clearly, Dorothy didnt feel at home. Eventually, when she felt a little stronger, Dorothy returned to her own cottage. Jane hoped things would settle back to normal, but disaster struck. Mark fell gravely ill and, tragically, did not recover.

Jane was indescribably heartbroken through those agonising days, and in the depths of her grief, she learned she was expecting a child. During this grim chapter, she received unexpected, unwavering support from Dorothy. Losing her only son was a nearly unbearable blow, but Dorothy stood beside her daughter-in-law and helped in every way she could. She comforted Jane, gently reminding her not to lose hope, insisting that life must go on. Jane felt lost and daunted by the prospect of raising a child on her own, but with Dorothys support, things didnt seem quite so bleak or hopeless. Gradually, life began to brighten, and a year later, a healthy, beautiful daughter was born.

A year after that, Jane met a remarkable man. Still, she never forgot Dorothy and often visited her with her little girl, always remembering the unexpected kindness that had helped her through her darkest days.
