You Have No Heart! Can’t You See How Much Daniel Is Struggling? He’s Your Brother—You Could’ve Helped Him. Stop Being So Selfish!

“Youve got no heart. Cant you see how much Daniels struggling? Hes your brotheryou couldve helped him out. You only ever think about yourself.”

Thats what my mum said when she rang me the other day, telling me to come collect all my things from her flat. “We can barely move in here because of your clutter,” she snapped.

This all started after I refused to give my brother Daniel the money for a deposit on a house. And yeah, I mean *give*, not lendbecause lets be real, Id never see that money again.

When I said no, Daniel stormed out of my place in a rage. He was dead certain Id just hand over my savings because hes got a wife and kids, and I dont.

I need to vent about this because it feels like my familys being proper unfair, especially right before Christmas.

Back when I moved to Manchester for uni, I started working part-time straight away. First, I lived in halls, then I split a flat with a mate. I didnt want to rely on my parents, so I worked my socks offnot just to pay my own way, but to help Mum out too.

She never outright asked for cash, but shed always nudge me to bring something usefulclothes, shoes, bits for the house. And I never showed up empty-handed; my bags were always stuffed with groceries.

Mum lives in a three-bed with Daniel. Our dad passed away three years ago.

Daniel was never fussed about studying. After school, he worked in Scotland for a bit, but the only thing he managed to buy was a banger of a car. When he came back, he started driving a cab.

Then he got married and moved his wife, Charlotte, into Mums place.

Money was always tight for them because Daniel lived hand to mouth. The second he and Charlotte got paid, it was goneusually on stuff they didnt need.

Both Mum and Charlottes parents were always bailing them out. Daniel knew someone would always rescue him, so he never bothered trying to earn more or sort his finances.

Now, Daniel and Charlotte have two kids, with a third on the way.

Theyve decided Mums place is too cramped and started talking about buying their own house.

Meanwhile, Im in a rented flat with my boyfriend, James. Were planning to get married, but were holding off till the timings better. Were doing alrightJames is a software engineer, and I run a few online shops.

We dont splash out on nonsense; were saving up for our own place so weve got somewhere proper to live after the wedding.

Mum knew our plans, but she still put the idea in Daniels head that he could ask me for money.

“They want to buy a house, but they havent got the deposit,” Mum told me.

When Daniel turned up and outright demanded the cash, I said no.

He lost it. He reckoned I *owed* him, just because hes got a family and I dont.

Then Mum rang me and said, “Youve got no heart. Cant you see how much Daniels struggling? Hes your brotheryou couldve helped him out. You only ever think about yourself.”

Then she dropped the bomb: “Come get your stuff from the flat. We cant move with all your junk here. And dont bother coming for Christmas. Daniels proper cross with you, and Im not fussed about seeing you either.”

I didnt argue. Ill grab my things and cram them into my rented place. And once James and I buy our own home, Ill move them there properly.

I *couldve* lent Daniel the money, but lets face ititd be gone for good. And he didnt even ask for a loan; he just expected me to hand over my savings.

Just because hes got kids

What would you do in my shoes?
