You Have No Heart! Can’t You See How Much Daniel Is Struggling? He’s Your Brother—You Could’ve Helped Him. Stop Being So Selfish!

Youve got no heart. Cant you see how much Daniels struggling? Hes your own brotheryou couldve helped him out. Its always about you, isnt it?

Not long ago, my mum rang me up and told me to clear out all my things from her flat.

We can barely move with all your clutter in the way, she said.

This came after I refused to give my brother, Daniel, the money for a deposit on a house. I say *give* because I know full well hed never pay me back.

When I said no, Daniel stormed out of my place in a rage. He was dead certain Id just hand over my savings because hes got a wife and kids, and I dont.

I need to get this off my chest because it feels like my familys being unfairespecially right before Christmas.

Back when I moved to Manchester for uni, I started working part-time straight away.

At first, I lived in halls, then I split a flat with a mate. I didnt want to rely on my parents, so I worked my fingers to the bonenot just to get by, but to help my mum out too.

She never outright asked for money, but shed always nudge me to bring things round: clothes, shoes, bits for the house.

And when it came to food, Id always turn up with bags stuffed full of groceries.

My mum lives in a three-bed house with Daniel. Our dad passed away three years back.

Daniel never had much time for school. After GCSEs, he worked in Scotland for a bit, but the only thing he had to show for it was an old banger of a car. When he came back, he started driving a cab.

Later on, he got hitched and brought his wife, Sophie, to live with Mum.

Money was always tight because Daniel lived hand to mouth. The second he and Sophie got paid, it was gonespent on whatever took their fancy.

Both my mum and Sophies parents bailed them out regularly. Daniel knew someone would always step in, so he never bothered trying to earn more or sort his finances.

Now, Daniel and Sophie have two kids, with another on the way.

They decided Mums place was too cramped and started looking to buy their own.

Meanwhile, I rent a flat with my bloke, James. Were planning to marry but holding off for the right time. Weve got steady incomesJames is a software engineer, and I run a few online shops.

We dont splash out on rubbish; instead, were saving for our own place so weve got somewhere proper after the wedding.

Mum knew our plans, but she still put the idea in Daniels head that he could ask me for cash.

They want to buy a place, but theyve got nothing for the deposit, she told me.

When Daniel turned up and flat-out demanded the money, I refused.

He went spare. He thought I *owed* it to him just because hes got a family and I dont.

Later, Mum rang me and said:

Youve got no heart. Cant you see how much Daniels struggling? Hes your own brotheryou couldve helped him out. Its always about you, isnt it?

Then she added:

Come and take your stuff from the house. We cant move with all your junk lying about. And dont bother coming for Christmas. Daniels livid, and Im not fussed about seeing you either.

I didnt argue. Ill fetch my things and squeeze them into my rented flat. And when James and I buy our own place, Ill shift them there.

I *could* have lent Daniel the money, but I know Id never see a penny back. And he didnt even ask for a loanhe just expected me to hand it over.

All because hes got kids

What would you do in my shoes?
