“Rom, oh Rom, weve got twins!” sobbed Tanya down the phone. “Theyre so tiny, just 5.5 pounds each, but theyre healthyeverythings fine!”

“Bloody hell, the scan did say twins,” Roman muttered. “Boys?”

“Yes, boys! Theyre so beautiful!” Tears of joy streamed down the young mothers face. At last, she was holding her babies in her arms.

Pregnancy hadnt been easy for Tanya. For starters, the father, Roman, had initially been against having them. They worked togethershe was an accountant at a small firm, he was a delivery driver. It wasnt some grand love storyjust two young people who saw each other often. Things just… happened. Especially since Roman had just split from his fiancée, Lydia, after catching her kissing his best mate, Alex, in his own car. The wedding was off, and Roman was looking for a distraction. Tanya, a naive 20-year-old fresh out college, happened to be in the right place at the right time.

Shed never been popular with menbright ginger hair that stuck out in every direction, freckles all over her face, and a constant battle with her weight since school. Roman was her first proper boyfriend. Of course she fell head over heels.

At first, Roman kept their relationship quiet. Hed wait for her after work, theyd walk by the river or sit in the parknever in public. But in their small town, word got out. Soon, everyone was asking about him and the new accountant. To spite his ex, Roman played it up, boasting about his “passionate love” for Tanya. She believed every word, mistaking his act for the real thing.

Tanya lived with her aunt, a stern, unmarried woman who barely tolerated her. When the aunt found a positive pregnancy test, she saw her chance to finally get rid of her niece. She even tracked down Romans mum, Martha, at the local shop to drop the bombshellRoman had no idea.

“Son, apparently youve got a fiancée!” Martha confronted him. “Thought you were still hung up on Lydia!”

“What fiancée? Were just seeing each othernothing serious!”

“Nothing serious? The whole towns talking! And her aunt came round asking about wedding plans!”

Roman was floored. Tanya hadnt told him. When he confronted her, she just whispered, “I was scared you wouldnt want the baby.”

Too late now. They married quietlyjust a registry office and a dinner in his parents garden. Romans sister, Kate, sneered, “Honestly, trading Lydia for *her*?”

Tanya didnt care. She was marrying the man she loved.

But Roman was distant. He barely touched her, stayed late at work, and when the twinsCharlie and Harryarrived, he avoided them. Meanwhile, Lydia swanned back into town, smirking at Tanya in the supermarket. “No wonder Roms never home,” shed taunted, before Tanya nearly collapsed from stress.

Roman moved in with Lydia, leaving Tanya and the boys at his parents. But life with Lydia wasnt the dreamshe spent his wages, couldnt cook, and nagged him to kick Tanya out. Meanwhile, Tanya slimmed down, glowed up, and handled motherhood with quiet grace.

Weekends with the twins changed everything. Roman found himself laughing with Tanya again, playing with his sons. One evening, he didnt go home. “Work trip,” he lied to Lydia.

Lydia, fed up, jetted off to Spain with an old flame. Roman packed his things and moved back home.

“Maybe we should divorce,” Tanya murmured once.

“Lets not rush,” Roman said softly, holding her gaze.

Now, curled up together, Tanya knewlove had won.

Across town, Lydia sighed, twirling a diamond ring from Alex. “Loves overrated anyway.”

Two women. Both right, in their own way.
