I’m 45 Years Old and No Longer Welcoming Guests into My Home.

Published

on

Im 45 now and I no longer entertain anyone in my flat.

Some folk seem to forget that when they turn up at your door theyre guests. They act rude, start issuing instructions and never make a beeline for the exit.

I used to be the poster child for hospitality, but once I crossed the fourdecade mark I put an end to inviting people over. Why bother? Its a bother having such visitors.

My last birthday I celebrated at a bistro in York and I loved it thats the new plan. Let me explain why.

Throwing a party at home is expensive. Even a modest dinner party can set you back a tidy sum, and a Christmas do can cost even more. Guests bring modest gifts times are tight then linger until the small hours. Id rather relax than be stuck washing a mountain of dishes and tidying up.

Now I wait for no one in my flat. I clean and cook only when I feel like it. In the old days, after Christmas gatherings Id be knackered and down in the dumps. Now, after the holidays, I can slip into a bath and hit the sack early.

I have plenty of free time and I use it wisely. Friends can pop over for tea, and Im not fretting about having a spread. I can speak my mind freely. When I want peace, I point to the door. It may not look glamorous, but I dont lose sleep over it. My wellbeing comes first.

The funny thing is, people who love dropping by other peoples homes never invite anyone into theirs. For them its easier to play host elsewhere than waste time cleaning and cooking.

Do you welcome guests? Can you call yourself a hospitable person?
