Couldn’t You Have Paid for All the Shopping, Not Just Yours? He Got Upset on the First Date

Published

on

I met a boy at a friends birthday party. It turned out he was a mate of her boyfriend. There must have been some spark, because after chatting for a while, he asked if I fancied going out with him.

When we met up, the first thing he said was that we needed to pop to the supermarket, pick up a few bits, and then wed be heading over to his friends flat together. Since it was freezing outside and he didnt suggest doing anything else like grabbing a coffee or catching a film, I went along with it.

He mentioned we should get a pizza and a couple of other things. Once inside Tesco, he grabbed a trolley and off we went. Then he started filling it up with fancy cognac, a pack of posh sausages, an artisan cheese, and even a pineapple

I was a bit taken aback, to be honest. I just put in some satsumas and some biscuits, as I didnt have much cash on me. After all, I thought we were just meeting up, not going on a weekly food shop.

At that point, I assumed he was just one of those generous blokes who dont mind spending a bit extra.

We got to the till, where there was a queue of five people ahead. Suddenly, he wandered off from the trolley, saying, Ill be right back. I didnt have a clue what was going on. When it was my turn, I simply took the satsumas and biscuits Id chosen, left the rest in the trolley, and paid for what was mine.

On my way out, I saw him waiting by the entrance, looking a bit expectant. He took my shopping bag, realised it was much lighter than it should be, peered inside, and looked completely bewildered. Wheres the rest of it? he asked.

I gestured back to the store. He shouted after me, calling me stingy, moaning that I could have paid for everything, and that Id wasted his time.
