After My Mother Passed Away, My Brother and Aunt Wasted No Time in Asking Me to Leave Home—At First I Thought It Was Understandable, But Everything Changed When My Brother’s Wife Made Hurtful Comments. Determined to Stand Up for Myself, I Decided to Teach Them a Lesson.

Gazing out of my window long ago, I remember seeing a mother strolling along, speaking lovingly with her daughter in the autumn sunshine. The sight stirred old memories of my own childhood, when Mother would take me by the hand to the nursery school, and wed enjoy treasured moments in Kensington Gardens, sharing a scoop or two of strawberry ice cream. A wave of longing swept over me and, before I knew it, a single tear traced down my cheek as I mourned her absence in my life.

It was then that my brother, Edward, broke into my thoughts, asking me when I planned to return to London. Uncertain of my own plans, I mentioned that I might need to visit a solicitor. This only made Edward accuse me of wanting to claim Mother’s flat for myself. To my surprise, our aunt Margaret sided with him. The tensions ran even higher during Mother’s memorial service, where Edward raised his voice at me in front of everyone. I felt exposed and wounded by the scene.

After the friends and relatives had left, Aunt Margaret approached me, eyes blazing, and declared that they intended to sell the flat and buy two smaller ones: one for Edward, and the other for her daughter, Alice. She briskly told me to return to the city and make the most of my life there. Her words stung deeply.

Utterly baffled and hurt by their behaviour, I found myself alone at Mothers flat, hoping to gather a few keepsakes. To my horror, Edward and his wife Helen had changed the locks and refused to let me in. Helen even shoved me out the door in a most unkind and heartless fashion. At that moment, I resolved that I would do all I could to reclaim my rightful place and have them removed from the property.

Despite how theyd treated me, I had continued to support them, sending money for medicine and even hiring a nurse for Motherthough they lived with her and could have managed. To add insult to injury, I discovered from friends on social media that Mother had passed away; Edward never told me himself, likely so he could keep receiving my financial help.

Later, I confronted Edward and made it clear that I was prepared to take him to court for the whole flat. Though he tried to hide it, I could see that he was frightened by the possibility. I was determined then to let a judge decide who was truly entitled to the property, and finally seek justice.
