A 42-Year-Old Friend of Mine Has Found Himself a Wife: He Boasts She’s a Superb Housekeeper and an Exceptional Cook—and Says Nothing Else Matters to Him

Ive known Adam since we were kids, growing up in the same neighbourhood in Manchester. Naturally, we became mates. When we hit our teens, wed gather with the rest of the group and head into the city centre. Sometimes wed just stroll about or have a laugh sitting on a bench, doing basically nothing. We didnt really bother with girlfriends back then. What we cared about most was how our friends would reactno one wanted to lose face in front of the lads.

Eventually, I signed up with the Army, while Adam managed to dodge it somehow. Once I was out, I landed a job, and not long after, I got married. My wife and I were together for ten years, and we had two kids. But over time, we drifted apart so much that it felt like we were complete strangers. Arguments became the norm, and we both realised it just wasnt working. Not long after, we got divorced.

Two years later, when I was a single bloke again, I bumped into Adam out of the blue. I barely recognised himhed put on loads of weight since Id last seen him, twelve years ago.

We grabbed a table at a little café and had a proper catch up. Turns out, Adam was divorced too, and on the lookout for someone new. Fast forward another year, Id met a wonderful woman, and we tied the knot. By chance, I ran into Adam again, and wouldnt you know ithed found himself a new partner as well. Ive got to admit, though, I didnt really take to his wife. She was quite large, to put it politely.

I asked him, So what do you like about her?

Adam told me, quite cheerfully, that she kept the house spotless and was a cracking cook.

And you know what? he said. She gives me real peace of mind. I can have a pint in peace and watch the football, or pop down the pub with the lads. Shes sort of perfectnever nags or tells me off about anything.

It honestly threw me for a loop. For me, a life partner means something completely different. Of course, its great if someone can cook a decent meal and the house isnt a tip, but what matters most is being in love, you know?

Some people value a tidy home and good food more than anything else, and fair play to them. For me, though, I want to be with someone whos on the same page, who just gets me. Mutual respect and understandingthats the big thing. Its brilliant when a couple shares interests. My wife and I love cooking together and dont mind tidying up as a team.

When two people are cycling side by side and pedalling in the same direction, your chances of making it all the way are just so much better.

Wouldnt you agree?
