Великдень, найбільше християнське свято, символізує Воскресіння Ісуса Христа. Його дата щорічно змінюється. У цей день православні говорять один одному: “Христос Воскрес!” – “Воістину Воскрес!”.

Історія визначення дати Великодня
На Першому Вселенському соборі 325 року встановили відзначати Великдень усім церквам в один день, який не співпадає з єврейською Пасхою, що настає до весняного рівнодення.
Олександрійський патріарх щорічно визначав дату свята і повідомляв її в Рим для святкування в один день. Але згодом це припинилося, і Захід та Схід почали святкувати Великдень різними днями.
У 4-6 століттях в Олександрії (нині територія Єгипту) створили спеціальні великодні таблиці, що допомогли визначати дату Пасхи на довгий період. Головне свято християн зараз святкується в першу неділю після першого повного місяця після весняного рівнодення (21 березня) або під час нього.
Чому католики і православні святкують Великдень у різні дні
У 16 столітті Римська католицька церква перейшла на григоріанський календар і почала святкувати Великдень за григоріанською пасхалією, а православна залишилася на юліанському календарі та продовжує святкувати за олександрійською системою. Тому дати святкування у православних і католиків часто відрізняються.
