I know many men might not agree with me, but after everything I’ve been through, I no longer believe in a so-called “final change.”

I know a lot of men probably wont agree with me, but after everything Ive been through, I just dont believe in the idea of lasting change anymore. If a man cheats, he might behave for a while, keep himself in check, make big promisesbut sooner or later he trips up again. I learned that lesson the hard way.

The first time he cheated on me, we were still just dating. Wed been together nearly two years. I found out when another woman called my home phone to tell me. When I confronted him in tears, he swore it was just a silly flirtation, nothing physical, a mistake. I was young, in love, naively hopeful. I believed him. I forgave him. We carried on as though nothing had happened.

Three years later, we were married. We had a lovely home, big plans, dreams for the future. The second affair hit me much harder. It wasnt just a rumour this timeit was a full-blown relationship that had lasted months. I found hidden messages, late-night excuses, and odd transfers of money. Faced with the truth, he couldnt deny it. He said he was confused, tired of the routine, that he needed to feel wanted again. He wept, swore it would never happen again, promised the world. And again, I forgave him.

After that, we lived together in what seemed like peace for eight more years. Wed do the weekly shop together, take trips, spend time with family. I told myself hed grown up, that hed finally changed. But small things started catching my eyelingering glances at other women, crude comments here and there, social media feeds filled with models, messages hed hide the moment I walked near. I chose not to notice, not to ask, not to disrupt our fragile calm.

The third time, it wasnt me who found him out. He came to me and confessed. One evening he walked through the door, serious and guilty. He said, I tried for eight years, I really did. I behaved. I was good. But I just couldnt anymore. He told me hed been seeing another woman for weeks, that shed made him feel alive again, and that the temptation had always been there, just waiting for its moment.

I didnt cry that time. I didnt say anything at allI just looked at him, feeling only exhaustion. Tiredness from all the forgiving, all the excuses, all the recycled promises. I asked him if hed even thought of me when he did it again. He answered that he had, but the urge was stronger.

Thats when it finally hit me, painfully: he hadnt changed, hed just learned to hide it better. And Id only learned to wait. He hadnt become loyalhed become patient.

That very night, I packed my things and left, because he wouldnt go anywhere. I didnt make a scene. I didnt shout, I didnt beg. I just walked out, strangely calmthat sort of calm you get when theres nothing left to save. I didnt take furniture, or souvenirs. I took my dignity.

Now, when I hear a woman say, He changed for me, I remember my own story. People can hold themselves together for a while. They might behave for years. But when the root is rotten, sooner or later, it all falls apart.
