Mum Forbids Me from Inviting Dad’s New Wife to My Wedding, Even Though She Feels Like Family to Me!

My upcoming wedding, set for just a few days from now, is overshadowed by my mothers impossible demands and whims. She insists that I invite my father to the wedding, but forbids him from bringing his new wife, whom she loathes with every fibre of her being. My parents have been divorced for years; my father has moved on and remarried, but my mother still harbours a deep and lasting bitterness toward him. The catalyst for their split was Margaret, my fathers current wife. Apparently, Margaret, convinced that my father was staying in the marriage only for my sake, went to my mother and told her point-blank, He doesnt love you; hes only here because of your daughter. Dont humiliate yourselflet him go. In a fit of rage, my mother threw my father out that very night.

There was a time when my mother forbid me from speaking to my father at all, but I simply couldnt stand the idea of being cut off from him and my new little brother, whom Dad had with Margaret. I often visited them, relishing the time spent with my younger brother, who is ten now. When I told my dad about the wedding, he was thrilled and announced that he wanted to buy me and my future husband a flat in the area of our choosing as a wedding gift. It was such an extraordinary gesturehe simply wanted to give us a chance at a comfortable life. I was over the moon, yet my mothers bitterness cast a pall over my happiness.

She absolutely refuses to allow my father and Margaret to attend the wedding together, calling Margaret the husband-stealing mistress. Mum declared that if Margaret set foot at the ceremony, she herself would refuse to come. On top of that, when she learnt about Dads intention to gift us a flat, she labelled me a traitor for accepting it. Now Im torn right down the middle, between my fathers unwavering support and my yearning to see my mother happy.

I spend my days in tears, wrestling with this wretched situation. My fiancé does his best to reason with my mother, gently explaining that her demands are out of line. Sadly, this seems to have only fuelled her resentment toward him as well. I cant understand why she treats me like this. I know my father hurt her in the past, but surely forgivenessand letting gois the only way to move forward. I just want all those I love to find peace and happiness, but right now the pain is suffocating, and I wish for nothing more than for this to all work out for everyone involved.
