My Parents Never Gave Me the Support I Needed, but My Friends Stood by Me Through Every Challenge. Although People Say Family Is Forever, That Wasn’t True for Me. My Friends Were Always There, Encouraging and Helping Me When I Needed It Most.

You know, my parents never really gave me the support I needed, but my friends have always been there for me through thick and thin. People always say family is forever, but in my case, its my friends whove stuck around no matter what. Theyve been my cheerleaders, lifting me up and helping out whenever I needed it most.

It all started back at school, where our little bunch a mix of boys and girls became really close. I remember when I mentioned wanting to sign up for an art class, my parents flat-out refused to pay for it. But my mates didnt even hesitate. They rounded up spare sketchbooks and art supplies for me, and Adam even convinced his sister, whos a brilliant designer, to give me lessons for free. When it came to graduation, my parents couldnt have cared less they didnt want to cough up the money for anything. My friends, though? They found part-time jobs to help raise the cash for the event, and helped me get everything sorted even sewing my dress and helping out with hair and make-up.

Then there was the university switch. My parents kicked up such a fuss. They gave me this awful ultimatum: study where they said, or pay for everything myself. Luckily, my friends totally had my back. They let me stay with them while I saved up my wages for my tuition and helped me out with the basics food, bills, you name it.

Honestly, throughout my life, my friends have been my safety net. They even chipped in for my mortgage, all banding together to help renovate my place, and looked after me when I was poorly. Meanwhile, my parents and brother have never even lifted a finger. They always talk about how family should always be there, but I havent spoken to them in four years now and honestly, I dont see the point. My mates have become my real family always ready with some support, a shoulder to cry on, or just to show up when I need them most. Theres six of us all together four from school and two from university and I genuinely dont know what Id do without them. Im just so grateful to have them in my life.

Mila sat on the floor for a long time, unable to move. Her fingers trembled so violently she could barely unwrap the package. The fabric was thick, old, yet unexpectedly clean—not a rag, nor something discarded at random. Someone had wrapped it carefully, smoothed out the folds, as if hiding not an object, but a secret that needed to be protected at all costs.

I sat on the floor for what seemed like hours, unable to move. My hands shook so violently, I barely...

I was ten when my father first didn’t call me to breakfast, but silently led me out into the yard. That morning, the frost on the window looked like intricate lace, and the air stung my lungs. I wanted to hide under my duvet, pretend I hadn’t heard the door creak, that I wasn’t the boy whose turn it was today to fetch firewood for the stove.

I was ten the first time my father didnt call me in for breakfast, but quietly ushered me outside instead....
