My Son’s Wife Doesn’t Even Know How to Clean Up After Herself! Ultimately, They Moved Out of My House.

on

I was just twenty-two years old when I found myself aloneno husband, only little David cradled in my arms. My son was barely two at the time. His father had walked away, weary of the ceaseless worries, tired of earning money simply to spend it on his family.

He never cared for that life. Really, why bother spending your wages on your family, when you could enjoy them yourself, or with your mistress, for that matter? However he was as a husband, it became easier for me once he’d gone. All the burden fell to my shoulders with his departure. I enrolled David at nursery and set off to work myself. I remember sometimes feeling so exhausted, I could barely feel my legs beneath me. Yet my home was always tidy, meals cooked, and my child clean and well-fed.

My mother instilled that in me, and our generation seemed more tough. Ill admit I may have pampered my son a bit too much. Even now, at twenty-seven, David doesnt know the first thing about frying an egg. But recently he got married. I thought, at last, hes found a wife, shell look after this big baby of mine, and I can finally pursue my hobbies, perhaps even think about another jobessentially, live quietly for myself.

Then David told me he and his wife would be staying with me for a time. I cant say I was thrilled, but I agreed, thinking, well, lets let them stay. Shed cook for her husband, handle their washing, and Id just need a bit of patience until they found their feet. It turned out nothing like that. Kate was quite the character. She wouldnt clear the table after herself, never washed the dishes, nor did the laundry for herself or David, and not even the most basic sweeping or tidyingshe did absolutely nothing.

For three months, I cared for three people. Did I need all that? What did my daughter-in-law do? Since David had decided he would provide for his family, Kate never worked a day. From morning until evening, until David came home, shed go out into town with friends or chat away endlessly on the phone. And I still worked. When I came home, the place was in chaos, everything scattered about, the fridge empty, not a scrap of food prepared. I always had to pop down to the corner shop, buy groceries, cook meals, and then tackle the mountain of washing up. Kate had not a shred of conscience about it.

She even had the cheek to come to me while I was scrubbing the dishes, handing over a plate shed been keeping in her room for days. Shed forgotten all about it, and the plate was covered in flies and goodness knows what else. The next time my daughter-in-law handed me a dirty plate, I told her right away that if she had any decency, shed have washed the dishes herself at least once.

And what do you think happened? Did she apologise and do anything differently? No, the very next day, with a huge fuss, she and David left and rented a flat for themselves. My son even said Id tried to ruin his marriage! How? By asking his wife to wash a few plates? Well, thank the heavens, now Ill live in peace and cleanliness and wont have to clear up after anyone. Young people these days, I tell you, they havent an ounce of usefulness. Absolutely hopeless.
