My wife was sleeping beside me… when suddenly I got a Facebook notification and a woman asked me to add her.

My wife was asleep beside me, as peaceful as can be, when, out of the blue, I received a notification on Facebook. A woman had asked to add me as a friend. So I went ahead and accepted.

I sent her a message, politely asking, Do we know each other?

She replied, I heard youve gotten married, but I still love you.

She was someone I used to know. She looked quite beautiful in her profile picture.

I closed the chat window and glanced at my wife, who was resting after a long and tiring day at work.

Watching her, I thought about how safe and comfortable she must feel, sleeping so soundly in our new home together. She was far from her parents house, where she once spent every day surrounded by her family. Whenever she felt upset or sad, her mother would be there, letting her cry on her lap. Her brother or sister would tell jokes to make her laugh. Her father would come in after work, bringing home little treats for her. And yet, here she was, placing so much trust in me.

With these thoughts swirling in my mind, I picked up my phone and pressed BLOCK.

I turned back towards her and soon fell asleep by her side.

I am a man, not a child. I have made her a promise, and I intend to keep it. For as long as I live, I will strive to be the man who never betrays his wife and never breaks up his family.
