Something Strange Occurred During This Young Boy’s Christening Ceremony
Something rather peculiar and utterly baffling unfolded during the christening of this little lad. Honestly, nobody present had ever witnessed a baby shrieking, bawling, and wriggling around with quite such flamboyant determination.
The entire congregation went straight into panic mode at the first squeak, as the vicar dipped the child into the water. At some point, more than a few guests started whispering that perhaps the vicar was dunking the poor baby in boiling water. His mums heart was about to break with every wail that escaped her son. She stared silently for a good few minutes, and then, unable to stand another second of the racket, shuffled over to her husband and muttered as discreetly as possible:
Excuse me, but how much longer is this going to go on?
Another fifteen minutes, love.
Is there any chance of speeding things up? I cant just stand here listening to our child screaming his head off.
You know perfectly well that if we interrupt the sacrament, the whole thing will have been pointless. He must be properly christened.
But look at himhes in agony!
Yes, I can see that. But the problem isnt with the christening itself. Theres something else at play…
What do you mean?
Well, the real culprit is you and your other half.
I beg your pardon?
Did you two tie the knot in church?
No, we didnt she admitted quietly.
The babys just a month old. Allow me to deduce he was conceived around Lent. And, if Im not mistaken, you may have had a termination before.
Mum lowered her head, lips sealed.
What have you done to atone for your sins? Gone to confession, perhaps?
She simply shook her head, lost for words.
Well, there you have it. Youve broken with tradition and the good book, so its not only you, but your son who pays the price. If you want him to be alright, try a bit of repentance and maybe aim to be a smidge better going forward.
The poor woman burst into tears, her face awash with them. She returned to her family and, miraculously, her son stopped crying. The vicar carried on, undeterred, with the christening.
At that very moment, it seemed as if parental sins had finally been lifted from the baby, because he was suddenly perfectly calm.
