Teen Hero, 16, Crashes Through Blazing Barn Wall to Rescue 14 Trapped Clydesdale Horses
The blaze swiftly swallowed up the barn where all 14 of the familys beloved Shire horses were stabled. Oliver, whod been lounging indoors when the lightning struck, dashed out in a flurry and started banging frantically on the barn door, desperately trying to alert the poor horses to the looming disaster.
Olivers mum, Julia Robinson, later remarked, Honestly, I doubt any of usor the horseswould still be here if it werent for him, recalling with slightly raised eyebrows the time her son had hurled himself into burning buildings before (childhood mischief knows no bounds, apparently).
Meanwhile, the tremor made quite the spectacle, rattling windows and sending furniture wobbling all over the homes in Surrey. Thankfully, it amounted to little more than some startled teacups and no substantial damage or injuries.
Surrey hasnt had a quake like this in agesif ever, really! said Sarah Wilkins, a spokeswoman for the Surrey Emergency Planning Service, bewildered but rather cheerful about it all.
All in all, Olivers quick thinking managed to save the familys horses from certain doom by fire. By shoving open a side gate, they managed to herd the horses out to safety, and, on the bright side, the barn wasnt a complete write-off. Silver linings, as they say!
