I’m Glad I Chose Not to Have Children—Now at 70, I Have No Regrets

on

Im glad I made the decision not to have children. Now that Im seventy, I can say with confidence that I have no regrets whatsoever.
Not long ago, I had an appointment with a dermatologist and found myself waiting in the corridor for my turn. As I sat there, a woman took a seat beside me, and we struck up a conversation. She turned out to be great companygenuinely interesting and pleasant to chat with. Oddly enough, after our conversation, my perspective on a number of things changed.
The first thing I noticed about her was how well put-together and stylish she looked. My initial guess was she could be no older than fifty. But as we talked, she admitted she was already over seventy. I wouldnt have suspected it in the slightest; she looked fantastic and bore little resemblance to other people her age that Ive met.
During our chat, I learned shed been married twice, but now lived on her own. She had divorced her first husband while they were still quite young. Apparently, shed made it clear from the beginning that she didnt want to have children.
Her husband was aware she had no desire to start a family, but after she turned thirty, he began bringing it uphow a complete family ought to include children. Even so, she never felt the urge to become a mother, and stood firm in her decision.
She explained that she found it easier to divorce than to go against her own wishes and have a child just to keep him happy. The two of them had a frank discussion and chose to go their separate ways.
Her second marriage was to a divorced man who already had a child from his previous marriage, and he had no intention of having any more children. Their views lined up perfectly, so having children was simply never a topic of conversation. He even appreciated that she didnt want children either. Sadly, their time together was cut short when her husband died in a car accident.
She confessed to me that living alone doesn’t trouble her in the slightest. On the contrary, shes delighted that she can do as she pleases and doesnt have to consider anyone elses needs. As a pensioner, shes convinced shell never regret her choice.
Her friends, who once expected their children to look after them, now sigh with disappointment. Their children have grown up and moved on, leading lives of their own. Most have little time for their elderly parents. Thats exactly why she chose not to have children in the first placeshe never felt the need, and never looked back. Now shes living a full life and savouring every moment. The absence of children is a joy, not a burden.
A glass of water, you ask?
She says shes in no danger of going hungry or being left helpless. While her friends spent their money raising children, she put hers aside. Now, her savings are more than enough to ensure she can afford any care she might ever need!
What do you think about that? Do you agree with her point of view?
