The Hardest Part of Growing Up… Is Watching Your Mum Grow Older How often do we complain about her……

The hardest part about growing up, I remember, was watching my mother grow old.

How often did we grumble about her… that she fussed too much, that she interfered in everything, that her expectations were simply too much at times. That she was always there, fretting about things we considered trivial, worrying needlessly.

Yet a mother’s heart never ceases to watch over her children. She loves so deeply that at times she confuses love with the need to carry every burden in silence. She endures our shouting, sulking moods, our cold rejection… Even then, she finds the strength to defend those who hurt her most.

There are mothers who remain silent out of love, hiding away pains that break their souls. Whilst everyone else gets on with life, she grows older in the quiether heart heavy, weighed down by worries not her own.

But when she is gone… That is when the most beautiful bouquets are laid upon her grave. The grandest music is played in her honour. And the tears falltears she will never be able to soothe.

And so we wonder… Why do we wait until the end to give everything we have? Why don’t we cherish her while we still have the chance?

Do not wait for your mother to leave this world before you realise she gave her whole life for you. Love her today. Listen to her today. Embrace her today. For growing up does hurt, but watching your mother age without your lovethat hurts far more.
