My Father-in-Law Assumed We’d Keep Supporting Him Financially

Published

on

Many years ago, my husband grew up in a cheerful, close-knit family with his parents. But when my father-in-law turned 57, sadly, the mother of the family passed away. Of course, my father-in-law was devastated. We all felt the loss deeply and wanted to help him get through it. So, we decided to sell his flat and split the money between our family and my brothers. Then, we welcomed my father-in-law into our home, hoping hed recover in time. And so, it was settled.

I assumed it would be only six months before he found his feet again, bought a place of his own, and moved out. However, he grew rather fond of being with us. He didnt contribute a penny towards household bills or groceries. I was the one who cooked for him, did his laundry, and kept his room tidy. All he did was go to work. It was rather like a holiday camp for him.

He ended up staying with us for eleven years. Eventually, he became quite accustomed to telling us how to run our home and what we should do. We decided it was best to find him a new home, so we purchased a house just outside the city for him. Hes tall and in good health, perfectly able to manage on his own.

We set him up with everything hed need for a comfortable life there. Yet, my father-in-law began spinning tales about his heart and various ailmentsanything, really, to avoid leaving us. But, frankly, Id had enough. I didnt want that sort of fuss anymore. I was worn out.
