A Wedding That Turned Into a Grand Finale

Published

on

They say a wedding is the beginning of a new life. For me, it marked the bitter end of an illusion Id so desperately maintained.

**Scene 1: The Mask of the Perfect Bride**
Emily stood before the mirror, her ivory lace gown flawless, her makeup immaculate, and her smile radiant. Yet her eyes betrayed herthey were icy, empty of warmth. Pressing her phone to her ear, she whispered, oozing with confidence,
Just wait until the ceremony is over. As soon as his name appears on our joint bank account, well finally be able to move to the coast together.

**Scene 2: World Falling Apart**
I stepped into the room, white roses in handthe symbol of all I felt for her. My smile faded instantly. I froze, the words cutting sharper than any blade.
Emily went on,
Hes so gullible Actually thinks Im interested in his familys inheritance. I just want the money.

**Scene 3: Rage and Silence**
My fingers tightened around the bouquet. Stems snapped, thorns pierced my skin, yet I barely felt the pain. My shadow fell across Emily, shutting out the golden afternoon light.

**Scene 4: Moment of Truth**
She turned to me, her complexion suddenly paler than the dress she wore. Her phone slipped from her hand, clattering onto the wooden floor. The silence that ensued was suffocating.

**Scene 5: The Final Chord**
I glanced at the ruined bouquet in my fist, then met her gazecold, resolute.
The only inheritance youll get is the one you just threw away, I said flatly.
Without a word, I reached out and pulled the veil from her head.

Emily stood still, as if rooted in place. The sheer veil stayed gripped in my hand. I didnt raise my voice. My calm unsettled her more than any fit ever could.

James, its not what you think please, she stammered. I only

Youve just shown your true colours, I cut across, refusing to let her finish.

I tossed the torn veil at her feet, watching it land in the dirt on the parquet. Then, from my pocket, I drew the velvet ring box and set it, unopened, on the table beside her shattered phone.

The guests are waiting, Emily whispered, desperately clinging to hope. What shall I tell them?

I walked towards the door, but paused for a moment.
Tell them the bride missed her train to her new life. And the groom has finally woken up.

I left, never once looking back. Soon, the sound of my car engine echoed through the driveway. Emily remained alone in an empty roomdraped in the most expensive dress shed ever owned, a dress suddenly worthless. There would be no wedding. Only the long road back home, where no one awaited her except her own shattered ambitions.

Would you have done the same in my place? Would you have given her a second chance, or left her behind for good?
