I Thought My Marriage Was Perfect Until My Best Friend Asked Me One Simple Question

Published

on

I thought my marriage was perfect until my best friend asked me a question that shattered everything.

I married young, swept away by love. We dated for four years before tying the knot, and in that time, we faced our fair share of struggles. Now, weve lived together for over six years, and Ive always trusted him completelyjust as I trust myself. My husband is kind, gentle, and endlessly caring. He helps with the chores, never complains, and though he isnt the bravest or strongest of mennor the most handsomehe has a heart so full of warmth it could light up the darkest room. His optimism, his unwavering belief in the good, has carried us through the hardest times.

But hes indecisive. Painfully so. He refuses to step out of his comfort zone, to push forward, to grow. And hes shyachingly shy. Six years together, and he hasnt changed a bit.

He neglects his health, avoids any shift in routine, and clings to the familiar. Hes nearly a decade older than me. Im twenty-six, with a career I love, a car I bought myself, and a mortgage were paying off together. And then, my best friend hit me with the question that unraveled it all: *”What do you even need him for?”*

Just like that, my happiness crumbled. Now I sit here, staring at the walls, wondering: *What do I really need him for?*
