Recently, My Daughter Divorced and Moved Back Home with Her Baby into Our Cramped Apartment

Published

on

Lately, my daughter got divorced and moved back into our cramped flat with her little one. Not long ago, she separated from her husband and settled in with us. We live in a small apartment with my husband. I thought that while shes on maternity leave, she could stay with her child at my mums place for a bit. But now thats impossible because Mum, at 68, has gone and remarried, moving in with her new husband.

When Mum first called to say she was getting married, I thought she was jokingafter all, shes 68! But no, it was true. Shed been on her own for years after her first husband passed away two decades ago. I was 35 when I moved out. Now, I live with my husband and kids in the city, visiting Mum a few times a month and during holidays.

Thankfully, Mums in good health and handles all the household chores herself. My husband and I help out now and thenmowing the lawn, chopping firewoodbut she manages everything else on her own.

And now shes brought a man into her home. It feels like a betrayal! She shouldnt have done this to us. Her fiancé is a man her own age, an old flame from her youth. They reconnected a few years back and started seeing each other again. In early July, they tied the knot at the registry office, followed by a modest reception at a restaurantjust close family.

My husband and I didnt go to the wedding. In my eyes, its a disgrace! What did Mum even need this for? She couldve carried on just fine without it. Im dead against this marriage and still cant come to terms with it. Mum has a big house where they now live together.

Her new husband owns nothingjust three grown children and a brood of grandchildren. Why did she do this? How could she treat us like this? Now that theyre legally married, he could lay claim to our inheritance. Were stuck in this tiny flat with my husband.

Recently, my daughter moved back in with us after her divorce, bringing her baby along. Now I help her look after the little one. My son lives with his girlfriend in a rented place. Id hoped my daughter could stay at Mums during her maternity leave, but thats out of the question nowMums started a whole new life.

We didnt speak for months. Then my aunt from the countrysideMums sistercalled and gave us an earful. She said we were being unfair, that Mum has every right to happiness. We should be happy for her. Worrying about inheritance while Mums still alive isnt right. But she should try seeing it from my side.

What if, instead of inheriting Mums house, we end up with some strange old man and his army of struggling relatives, all demanding their share? Thats why I believe Im in the right here, and Mums the one whos wrong.
