He Refused to Marry His Pregnant Girlfriend. His Mother Agreed, but His Father Stood Up for the Unborn Child.

He refused to marry his pregnant sweetheart. His mother stood by him, but his father defended the unborn child.

He wouldnt wed the girl who carried his baby. His mother took his side, but his father rose to speak for the child yet to come.

“Father, Ive news,” Thomas said the moment he stepped inside. “Our neighbour, Isabelleshes with child. Its mine.”

Arthur, his father, paused before answering calmly.
“Then marry her.”

“Are you joking? Im far too young. This isnt the time for familybesides, we were never truly courting.”

“Truly?” Arthur gave a bitter laugh. “You were man enough to chase after her, but now you act the boy when facing the consequences. Very well.” Without another word, he called for his wife. “Beatrice! Come here!”

Beatrice entered the kitchen, drying her hands on her apron.
“Whats happened?”

“Listen. Our son has got Isabelle, the neighbours girl, with child, and now he wont wed her.” With that, he folded his arms.

Beatrice didnt even blink. Her face hardened.
“And hes right. Why bring the first girl who comes along into this house? Girls these days are cleverthey find a man with prospects, get with child, and then its marry me. And what if the babe isnt even his? He ought to take the test. Besides, we cant force Thomashes still young. Hes a manit wasnt easy for him to resist. But weve no duty to raise anothers child.”

Arthur exhaled deeply and spoke softly.
“And if it is his?”

“So what if it is? Must we bear the burden? Tell him to take the test first, then well see.”

She turned and marched back to the kitchen, leaving Arthur alone with his son.
“Listen, I was young once,” he began. “Fancied one girl, married another. Not for lovefor duty. Being a man isnt just about passion, its choices and consequences. Your mother was with child. I didnt know if I could love her, but I knew one thingthe babe bore no blame. My blood, my conscience. And Thomas, for all of it, Ive never regretted staying.”

Three months passed. The paternity test left no doubt: with 99.9% certainty, Thomas was the father of Isabelles child.

“Well?” Beatrice huffed as Arthur set the paper before her. “Yes, its his. But that doesnt mean Isabelle sets foot in this house. She shantI wont have it!”

Thomas sat silent, avoiding his fathers gaze. His clenched fists betrayed his choicehe stood with his mother. Not a word passed his lips.

Arthur rose slowly from the table.
“Since the pair of you have made your decision, now hear mine.”

His voice was quiet, but firm.
“As long as I live, my grandson shall want for nothing. Ill buy land, build a house, and hemy grandsonwill have all Ive earned. And the two of you? Forget my help. Ill have no part in this disgrace. Thomas, from this day, you are no son of mine. All I have goes to the boy. Not a penny shall you see from me.”

Beatrice erupted.
“Have you lost your mind? Youd disinherit your own flesh and blood?”

Arthur didnt answer. He turned and left, deaf to her shouts and curses. Thomas stood frozen in the silence, scarcely believing his fathers words. But he knew one thingif Arthur said it, he meant it.
