Recently, I Visited My Daughter-in-Law and Was Shocked to Find a Cleaner Hired for the House—Despite Always Telling My Son His Wife’s Finances Didn’t Matter, I Can’t Understand How They Afford a Housekeeper with Their Modest Means, Especially Since My Husband and I Bought and Renovated Their Home and Still Help Them Out—When I Found Out My Daughter-in-Law Became a ‘Blogger’ During Maternity Leave and Hired Help, I Felt Betrayed and Insisted If Anyone Should Be Paid to Clean, It Should Be Me—But My Son Sees Nothing Wrong—Am I in the Wrong for Feeling Upset?

The other day, I popped round to visit my daughter-in-law, only to find a complete stranger bustling about doing the cleaning. Apparently, some woman looks after the house now.

I always told my son that the financial background of his future wife wouldnt matter to us. So, he was absolutely delighted and married Alice, whod never had two pennies to rub together and spent most of her life being a bit spoiled by everyone.

After tying the knot, the kids moved into the house wed bought for them. My husband and I had done it up nicely a proper fresh lick of paint and all that and now we try to help them out, bringing the odd bag of groceries because they dont exactly live on roast beef and champagne. Alice is doing fine, shes had my darling grandchild and, obviously, isnt working at the moment. My sons job isnt exactly what youd call impressive either dont ask about the salary, unless you like a good laugh.

So you can just imagine how I felt when I walked in, hoping to see my family, and found a stranger wielding a mop in MY house. Turns out Alice has hired a cleaner, but she herself barely lifts a finger. Who on earth does she think she is? Wheres her sense of decency?

Naturally, I sent the cleaner packing straightaway. After all, however you look at it, its still my house! And she was cleaning it with money that, lets be honest, they wouldnt have if it wasnt for us. I mean, where would they find the cash for such luxuries? I decided Id wait for Alice she was out with my grandson and give her a proper talking to when she got back. As soon as she walked through the door, I didnt even let her take her coat off before diving in. She just looked at me and said:

Mum, since Im on maternity leave, I became a blogger. I actually make pretty decent money now. Plus, I genuinely need the cleaner Im always up to my ears in work!

Blogger? Thats a job now? People get PAID for that? Honestly, I dont want some stranger scrubbing around in my house.

Well, if youve got all this extra money floating about, why not pay me? Ill clean, and then we wont have random women wandering in and out, I said.

She just shrugged and wandered off to feed my grandson, muttering under her breath. I waited for my son to return so I could fill him in on the latest scandal, and he just said:

Mum, I knew about the cleaner. Alice works really hard, and I like spending time with my son after work, so honestly, I dont see the problem.

I simply cant fathom how this younger generation makes it all add up. So I stomped off to see my husband, and do you know what he said?

Stop interfering in the kids lives! Theyre adults now, let them figure things out for themselves!

Honestly, I havent been this cross since they changed the recipe for our local chip shops curry sauce. I KNOW Im in the right dont you agree?
