I’ve Been Married to My Wife for 34 Years, but Now I’ve Fallen in Love with Another Woman—At 65, I’m Torn and Don’t Know What to Do

Alright, mate, let me tell you what’s been going on with me. So, my name’s Edward. Im 65 now. Ive been married to my wife, Barbara, for 34 years, but recently, Ive fallen in love with someone else. I honestly dont know what to do anymore.

Barbaras 62, and weve got a grown-up son. Hes married himself, with kids of his own now. After he left home and started his own family, its like Barbara and I just drifted apart. We became more like strangers under the same roof.

Once we both retired, I thought itd be great to sell up and get ourselves a little cottage in the countrysidefresh air, bird songs, you know the sort. Barbara wasnt too keen, but I managed to persuade her in the end. We found this lovely little place out in Sussex and moved in over the summer. I loved every bit of it, but Barbara just couldnt settle. She much preferred to lounge on the sofa with a good book or watch telly, and any time I asked for help with the garden shed say she wasnt feeling up to it. So, I ended up looking after everything myself, which wasnt really what Id hoped for.

Come autumn, we went back to London. Barbara was thrilled to be back, but I just felt out of place. After about a week, I packed my things and headed back to the cottage in Sussex. Honestly, it just felt more like home to me. Barbara stayed on in the city, and now we barely see each other.

There in the village, I met a woman called Margaret. Shes 60, and at first, she was a bit distant, but we started spending time together and now its become something real. Im scared to death about telling Barbara I want a divorce, and I have no idea how our son will take it. For now, Ive told Barbara Im just doing up the place and taking care of things, but truth is Im spending a good deal of my time with Margaret.

Barbara doesnt know anything yet, and Im completely torn about whether to be honest with her about wanting out. I just dont know what to do, mate.
