I Discovered My Husband Was Cheating When He Suddenly Started Sweeping the Street—How a New Neighbor…

Published

on

I realised my ex-husband was cheating on me because he started sweeping the street.

It sounds ridiculous, but that’s exactly how it went. He was an electrician and worked from home. Hed set up a workshop in the garage and spent his days tinkering with wires, tools, and customers. He was never one for housework not for any special reason, he just didn’t like it. Whenever he had some free time, hed kick back and relax, maybe watch a bit of telly, go down the pub for a pint with his mates, or fire up the barbecue. He was easy-going, never one for big parties, not aggressive, and not the type anyone would suspect of hiding something.

We lived on a wide, bumpy road lined with old chestnut trees. There were always leaves, dust and mud everywhere, so sweeping was a near-daily chore. Usually it was me out there at first light, having a quick go with the broom while I was making breakfast. That was just our routine. Then, one day a new neighbour moved in next door. Nothing unusual; that house was always up for let, so people came and went quite regularly.

It was a few months after she arrived that he suddenly started saying, No, dont worry, Ill sweep outside today. At first, I thought it was a sweet gesture. I used the extra time to get other things donewashing up, cleaning the bathroom, tidying round. I didnt think to watch him; why would I?

But then he started doing it every single day. Not only that he stuck to the same exact time, seven oclock in the morning. Never a minute early or late. That caught my attention; hed never been one for routines except for work. Out of curiosity one morning, I glanced out the window.

There he was, broom in hand but not sweeping, just chatting away. Smiling. And right in front of him was our neighbour. Coincidence, I thought. But it happened again the next day, and the one after that. Every time he stepped out, there she was as well it was as if theyd arranged to meet.

I started keeping an eye on things. It wasnt just mornings. One Saturday, he said he was popping down the pub with some mates. Nothing unusual there. As he opened the front door, something just didnt sit right with me. I peeked out the window and saw the neighbour leaving at the same time. She called across, Evening, neighbour! Have a good one! He answered her like it was the most normal thing in the world. She laughed and added, What a coincidence, Im headed that way myself. They walked off together.

The following weekend, he reckoned he was off to play football which was almost unheard of for him. Out he went, and a few minutes later she followed, chatting on her phone as she headed in the same direction.

I had no proof. No texts, no photos. Nothing, just patterns and timingscoincidences that no longer felt like coincidences.

Eventually, I confronted him. I didnt askI just said it outright: I know youre with the neighbour.

He looked startled at first, tried to deny it, but I told him, Ive seen you. Every day. Dont lie to me. He went silent, looking down at his shoes, then finally admitted, Yes. Im with her. Im in love.

I shouted at him to leave the house. We had no children, nothing to sort out. The irony was, he moved straight into the house next door, with her.

They didnt stay there long. Maybe about two months, then they both left. No one really knew what happened. They left the town and I never heard from them again. The whole street talked about it, my family too, but I didnt want to know any more.
