My Ex-Wife Tried to Sue Me for Half the House, But She Didn’t Expect I Had Planned Everything in Advance

My relationship with my ex ended in a courtroom showdown. I wont point fingersif you ask me, blame in a marriage is always shared.
Still, the truth is, my second wife started seeing another man behind my back. Hes well-off, a chap who settled here some years back and ended up opening a little coffee shop just off the high street. At first, she tried to keep their fling quiet, but that didnt last long; after a while, they stopped even pretending to be discreet.
Eventually, she confronted me and matter-of-factly announced she was filing for divorce and wanted to take me to court for half the house. I suppose she thought Id throw a fit, but I didnt. You see, Id purchased that house entirely with my own hard-earned pounds. She hadnt so much as contributed a shilling, other than living there for a couple of years. Now she had the cheek to demand her share as if it was entitled to her.
I met her demands with complete calm. I didnt try to talk her round or stop her heading to court. I just waited for her to lose the case and cough up the court fees. Truth be told, Id already learned my lesson the hard way with my first wife. That debacle dragged on for over three years, mostly because neither of us would budge. Every hearing turned into a row.
But in the end, my first wife got what she wantedshe managed to claim half of everything I owned. She landed herself a sharp solicitor, too, and in the end she left me without the flat Id inherited from my father.
This time around, though, I acted a lot wiser. Long before marrying again, I had sorted a home of my own, one Id done up myself, but I made sure to have it put in my brothers namehes the only person Id trust implicitly. So when the second marriage went south, legally speaking, I didnt own anything. After my first marriage fiasco, I swore Id never let any woman pull the wool over my eyes again.
What Ive learned is this: sometimes tough times teach us the most, and it pays to be prepared and keep your wits about you. Trust is precious, but its just as important to look after yourself.
