Mum, everything was fine this morning, began the daughter, sobbing repeatedly, but in the afternoon someone called Frank.

So, Sarah came back home really upset. Shed gone to see her daughter that day. When she walked in, the flat was a complete mess, like someone had just given up on tidying altogether. Her daughter, Emily, was sat on the floor just sobbing her heart out.

Shed just had a massive argument with Tom, apparently, and kicked him out of the house. Honestly, Sarah had no clue things had gone this way. Emily always seemed happy, they seemed to be getting on alright, raising their two kids splendidly. Theyd bought the flat together, paying it off bit by bit. Sarah was really struggling to understand what couldve happened.

Mum, everything was perfectly fine this morning, Emily started, barely managing to get her words out between sobs. But then, this afternoon, Toms phone rang. I picked it up and heard this woman say, Love, how much longer do I have to wait? I asked who it was, but she just hung up and then wouldnt answer when I tried to call back. So I confronted Tom. He said it was obviously a mistake, just some random call.

He stood there swearing up and down hed never do anything like that told her he was loyal. But Emily just couldnt believe it. Tom packed his things and left.

Sarah tried to comfort her, thinking, maybe it really was just someone dialing the wrong number.

Then the very next day, Emily rang her and said Tom had actually filed for divorce. Hed promised to keep up the mortgage payments, but honestly, who knows what hell do? If he stops paying, theres just no way Emily will manage on her own, and they could lose the flat. Tom said it should go to the kids, but Emily overheard that his other woman was demanding a share of everything.

Apparently, she needs a place too and shes pregnant. Whether thats true or not, nobody really knows. When they split, Tom promised hed handle all the costs. He still keeps in touch with the kids, and Emily never tried to stop him seeing them, but his new girlfriend doesnt like it one bit. Thats why Sarah thinks Tom might just back out of helping with the mortgage.

Every now and then, when Emily bumps into Tom, she can tell hes just completely worn down by this other woman and the whole baby situation… its like hes had enough already.
