A Difficult Birth: The Girl So Troubled That Doctors Urged Her Parents to Consider Giving Her Up
Everything seemed perfect at first. The scans showed my baby was completely healthy, but the birth was difficult. It was a little girl, but there were complications. The situation was so serious that the doctors urged me to consider giving her up.
She was kept in an incubator. When my husband came to visit, the lead doctor told him that our daughter wouldnt survive, and caring for her would only be a burden. After some time wrestling with it, he chose to walk away rather than let his life be affected. I was too numb to argue sunk deep in sadness.
Before I left hospital, though, I made the decision to keep my daughter. My husband packed his belongings and left for good. I came home to an empty flat, with only my baby for company. We went from one hospital to another, trying every possible treatment.
Many mothers with poorly children reached out to me with kindness and support. One day in hospital, I met a man who shared his experience. His wife had left him for a younger man, and theyd had no kids, so he spent his days alone.
He looked at my sick little Abigail with such gentle affection that I was moved to tears. He offered guidance, introduced me to people who could help, and supported us financially. Our bond grew so strong that soon we couldnt imagine being apart. We decided to marry.
Now, my daughter is nearly as healthy as any child. Shes even a champion athlete. And our family has grown we also have a little son, Oliver.
