My Brother and His Wife Were Cruising Down the Motorway When a Mysterious Woman Nearly Stepped into Their Path Without Asking for Help—That Day Altered Their Lives Forever
If someone had told me this tale, I dont think I would have believed themnot in a million years. But it actually happened to my brother, Michael, and his wife, Emma. They were returning home to Oxford after celebrating Grandads birthday in a little village outside Cambridge. It was early, barely seven oclock, with daylight still lingering gently on the roads.
As they drove along the A40, they saw a young woman standing at the edge of the pavement, desperately waving her arms to flag them down. Emma pleaded with Michael not to stop, warning it might not be safe. But Michael couldnt ignore her distress, so he slowed the car to see what was wrong. The womans face was marred with cuts and bruises, making her look as though shed just crawled through a hedge.
Between sobs, she managed to tell them her family had crashed. Their car had veered off the road and tumbled into a ravine nearby. She said her husband was gonedeadbut their child was still alive. She begged Michael to help save her son and pointed shakily to the scene.
Michael got out, told the woman to stay with Emma, and hurried to the site. Sure enough, he found the car, battered and silent. Without really thinking, he scrambled down and pulled a little boy, about six years old, from the back seat.
When he returned to the car with the boy, the woman was gone. When he asked Emma where shed gone, Emma just shrugged and said the woman had followed him toward the wreck. Michael was puzzled, so he headed back to the crashed car to look for her. For the first time, he noticed two figures slumped in the front: a man in the drivers seat and a woman beside him. Both were unmistakably dead.
So how had she been able to plead for help? That question still chills Michael to the bone. The boy now lives with themthey adopted him, and hes part of our family. Michael firmly believes it was a ghost that asked for help on the roadside. Sometimes, I wonder what I wouldve done if faced with something so inexplicable.
