A strict husband holds his entire family in a tight grip. But it is his wife who endures the most. When someone is subjected to constant pressure from a family member, they might start believing this is simply how things are meant to be. Yet everything changes in an instant once the woman realises that her husband is not as righteous as he claims to be.

Our heroine today, Hannah, has faced much adversity in her married life. Yet she is sure to overcome these challenges. Your thoughts and advice will help her come through this difficult time.

A harsh and unyielding spouse.

My husband, Edward, is a very strict and demanding man. He is the self-appointed head of our household, making all the important decisions without exception. He has always insisted on being in charge, never conceding even the smallest point. Everything must be done exactly how and when he says. I was aware of his stubborn character before marriage, but our union was arranged by our parents a longstanding tradition in our family.

I am trusting and open by nature, so I quickly put my faith in Edward. Yet over time he became more of a master than a husband. He fully provides for us and insists that I stay at home and never seek employment. At the same time, he wants our house to be warm, spotless and well-organised, with fine food always prepared with care and love.

I was told that the ultimate proof of my love would be to give him a son. Despite our persistent efforts, I wasnt able to conceive. There were no health issues; we consulted countless specialists, but none could find a reason.

I had already resigned myself, until one morning I woke up feeling dreadful. Edward had left for work early, grumpy as ever, and I still had to tidy up the house.

By habit, I took a pregnancy test, not expecting anything new. This time, though, I saw those two precious lines! I was ecstatic, unsure what to do first. My baby will be the most fortunate child in the world! That thought rang in my mind. I hurriedly got dressed, desperate to share the news and make my husband happy.

I didnt phone my mother; Adam was the first person I needed to tell. Within five minutes, I hailed a taxi and headed to his office. He was supposed to be there by now. I planned to ask his secretary not to announce my arrival, to surprise him. But the secretary wasnt at her desk.

Finding no one in the reception, I entered Edwards office. What I saw instantly shocked me his secretary was sitting on his desk, barely clothed, and Edward was with her.

Sorry to interrupt! I blurted, fleeing the office in horror. I jumped in a cab and headed straight to my parents house, though I feared they might not understand.

My mother wept, heartbroken that I was finally pregnant, and now the child was unwanted. My father was furious.

If Edward claimed I was fabricating the story, I had no evidence. Without it, I couldnt file for a divorce. It felt like an impossible situation. Im doing my best to remain calm for the sake of my baby. But what does the future hold for us?

Editors Tip.

Strictness in a husband isnt always the source of family problems. Advising in such cases is challenging. When traditions are rooted in religion or deep family custom, young people find it hard to forge their own lives. Hannah, in this story, became a hostage to circumstance. No one can predict what will happen next. But she is innocent and must remember this. The most important thing is not to give up hope.

Has something similar happened to you? Do you have advice or guidance for Hannah? Please share your thoughts below.
